Land mass that does not contribute much to the Nigeria's revenue wants to collect more? Their "ant" wants to eat like "Lion"... Does that even make sense logically? So, what should South with small land mass, and bigger revenue contribution do?

NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT URGES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO CONSIDER LANDMASS IN REVENUE SHARING

The Niger State Government is asking the federal government that landmass should be a consideration in the revenue sharing formula for the country.

The State Commissioner for Finance, Zakari Abubakar, disclosed this in an interview shortly after the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) led by its Federal Commissioner, Barrister Patrick Mgbebu Nworu, met with Governor Abubakar Sani Bello in a closed door meeting at the Government House, Minna.

Abubakar noted that the landmass of the state is the largest in the country with its topography having environmental challenges such as annual flooding, noting that the ecological fund for the State is not sufficient.

The Commissioner appealed that a certain percentage should be added to states that are challenged by environmental hazards.

He said the state is challenged by its size as opposed to the revenue that accrued to it, adding that if the landmass is considered, it will assist the state government to access and tackle the environmental challenges.

“In the consideration of the indices of revenue, the issue of landmass should be given a lot of weight", he said.

The Commissioner also pointed out that the number of Federal Roads criss-crossing the state is another issue that should be factored in the revenue sharing formula by the Federal Government.

The RMAFC Federal Commissioner, Barrister Nworu, said the commission members were in the state for advocacy and sensitization on revenue data and its management.

He said their mission in the state is also to get the stakeholders to know the value and the need to submit transparent as well as verifiable revenue data.

According to him, it is the commission’s mandate to formulate ways to allocate revenue from the federation account to the states and local governments.

Niger state has over 28 solid minerals across the state and also a gazillion of arable land for farming to generate revenue. The Gov should invite investors to come and tap into these ventures through ppp.
The era of going to Abuja to collect cake may soon fizzle out.
The Gov should rally round his federal law makers so that the hydro bill can be passed

I urge federal government of Nigeria to buzz off the business of revenue allocation and allow the states to manage whatever resources from the state. I know Niger State has massive landmass with uncountable mineral resources including crude oil.

Just negodu the obvious greed and laziness inherent in these people! If this country were operating as a federation, how would your state now survive? Your governor can’t think outside the box to grow his state’s IGR, he's only active when it’s time to travel to Abuja to receive a share of another person’s wealth. That’s why you folks think you can produce as many almajiris as you can because ure entitled to southern resources and even want it all for yourselves! Shameless Ndi ara!!!

If Landmass is used as factor for allocating revenue then SE go poor like Somalia o cheesy

Mr Governor, how is that even logical? What does such large mass of land produce for the country? Is there any mineral that is generated and sold for foreign exchange? There is totally no PRODUCTIVITY

These greedy people are looking for dubious ways to double their allocation against the South. In fact, SE should seriously consider pressing for "number of human resources" as a factor for distributing state allocations, because such factor will place you lot on the sloppy end of the seesaw.

Nonsense and uneducated North. undecided

Pga calm down. This is just a suggestion. Ambrose suggested to the senate committee to give Lagos 1% of the VAT collected. OBJ suggested that Pidgin should be used to teach in NIgeria universities. The dwarf CJN suggested that Sharia should be included into the constitution. The distance between suggestion and reality is like that of heaven and earth.

Re: Niger State Government Urges FG To Consider Landmass In Revenue Sharing by eeetuk(m): 2:27am On Sep 03, 2020
1999 constitution of Nigeria does not provide for revenue sharing based on landmass. One good reason is unused land does not generate revenue.

So, if Niger state government wants more money from the government it should convert its unused land into something productive to generate revenue.

One good idea for converting unused land into revenue generating tool is building apartments for people to live. Apartment buildings generate revenues to government through taxes collected by the government on the property.

And another way is building shopping centers to attract businesses to open shops to hire people to work and earn income.

These and more are ways Europe and western nations have generated revenue instead of waiting for free money.

Will Niger state government take this advice?

Very nauseating suggestion.

A state like Niger should have nothing to bother about revenue sharing from the central government. With very arable land, multiple water bodies and super richness in solid minerals, what else can a state ask for. Abubakar is another disappointing example of a 'young' governor having been elected at the age of 47
