Obasanjo retired all military officers and some personnel that had held political appointments .

This was the right thing as those officers had stopped being soldeirs .

All Military Administrators (,governors) , heads of ministries and govt agencies were retired. I remember a sergent was also affected . The sergent was appointed by Buba Marwa as head of Lagos State waste management

This was the action Shagari failed to take when he was sworn in in 1979. If he had retired the likes of Buhari who had previously been the Governor of Borno and later Minister of Petroluem, he won't have had a coup against him.

That action by Obasanjo in flushing out politically exposed soldiers is why we are yet to experience a coup.
