Mathematics because: 1. You love Mathematics (as stated in your post). 2. Petroleum Engineering only has name. My friend has M.Sc. Petroleum Engineering but couldn't get any job in Nigeria for 3years until he left for the UK. Not just him, jobs meant for Petroleum Engineers are very few even though few persons Study the course. 3. Mathematics has a lot of areas/disciplines associated with it... e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Information and Communication Technology etc. But after Studying Petroleum Engineering, there are only a few fields/disciplines close to it. 2 Likes |

Johnwick64:At least, some are better than others. A simple google search for recent jobs can give you an idea. And even considering future events, the world will always make use of Mathematics but what is the future for Petroleum Engineers in a world were countries' attentions are now drawn from petroleum? But you see Mathematics, till tomorrow, the world cannot do without it. |

Well let the data speak for themselves. Go on LinkedIn jobs and search for petroleum engineering jobs. Since you wanna be a programmer, search for programming jobs and then compare the results. Also go on indeed and check. please don't limit the search to naija. Check worldwide, USA, Europe, Asia, south America. Your decisions should be based on the results from your research. You should also check future job growth for both industries. Make your final decision based on data not on random nairaland sayings. 1 Like |

Go for Mathematics cuz it'll be less stressful since you love it,then don't stop at first degree try as much as possible to go for your M.Sc immediately after service then you'll thank me later. Go for Mathematical Modelling in your area of SPECIALIZATION at master level Or BIOMATHEMATICS, both are hot cake |
