Power of mass media.

I am grateful during this pandemic I am able to keep body and soul together, before getting admitted to the university I had learnt how to make hair, while waiting to be mobilized I decided to work in a salon and it has been fulfilling.

In my house normally, I hardly watch TV, I am almost always on my phone or if I were to sit and watch TV probably the news or discovery channel or nat Geo everything or Nickelodeon or da Vinci or movies (selected). So I started working in this salon and from morning to night we watch music channels and this got me thinking, 90% of all music videos is sex inspired (looking for the right word, is sexual or sexy or naked or dancing naked videos)(10% for real hustle).

From morning to night, nothing really constructive or artistic, my brain cells are dying I can hear them cry as I sleep. I started evaluating what exactly is the ART in what the ARTistes were delivering, I saw it sponsoring moral decay, I can't imagine a teenager watching that from morning to night, women will always be unclothed before them and money would equate to love, and the sexier you are as a lady the more money you should have not from working but from your body.

It dawned on me the power of the media, because small small I will na start thinking I want to blow into money and not grow, or maybe me too I should look for one rich dude to change my life. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Tell me about how you think the media is influencing you or the society.

Never been a fan of crass 'new school' music.

Old School for me anytime, any day.

Even the movies aren't any better.

You have to make a conscious effort to ignore the sex saturated atmosphere we are in.

Goodluck.

Lol. So you even noticed it. It's everywhere from schools sexualising little girls, to porn music videos, and yes dressing, everything just screams, sex! sex!! sex!!! and more sex!!!!
We currently live in time of hyper sexuality. No wonder sexual perversion is on the rise.

The music videos promote beauty ideals which make people who do not meet these standards develop a negative body image of themselves and others. As you have correctly pointed out, they promote the image of the gold-digger-woman and teach young boys that money is all it takes to attract females. They reduce women to their sex characteristics and boys to their ability to throw dollars around. It goes on with gender dynamics based on disrespect instead of relationships developed on the basis of mutual interests, goals, support and ultimately love and commitment. They also place too much value on vanity instead of promoting values such as kindness, honesty, diligence, tolerance, intelligence you name it.

I'm surprised that someone is just noticing this now. it not only in music video, even in advertisement too.
I remember watching one advert (though I will not mention the company's name) inside the advert the ladies were just shaking their breasts shouting "we for deal with that mumu driver" "deal with am" grin grin grin with one actor as their new driver

It's all over the world... If artists could not expose a bit of the female body parts, it will be tagged boring music.. Why do u think Jennifer Lopez is still relevant in entertainment and could be called for a major function while the like of Celine Dion has gone extinction.. I guess it's because Jello can still exhibit some body parts while the other couldn't..

I remembered when I was a kid, musicians called Blacky were my favourite.. Especially "can I have a dance Rosey" smiley, others include Felix Liberty.. "Ifeoma"... Rasky Mono, Alex O etc.. How many people still remembered the four legged TV that looks like a cupboard.. after watching u shut it like a wardrobes grin That was what we use those days..

Those days, parents were not scared to leave their kids to watch anything.. nowadays, concern parents were constantly with remote control ready to change channels every second.. U can imagine how that constant channel switching can trigger curiosity from inquisitive kids... more especially when the parents were not ready to have the famous "talk "
