On May 29th 2020, a 9 year old girl on her bare feet approached a stranger on the street saying she was “Very hungry”.

The male adult, feeling that something was wrong, took the child to a near by convenient store, got her something to eat and bought her a pair of flip-flops.

The stranger, upon a closer inspection, found that the child had bruises all over her body, some of her fingers were burned and severely damaged, and was bleeding from wounds on her head.

When the stranger asked what had happened, the 9 year old said “dad hit me, mommy was watching”, and with that, an immediate report to the police was made.

The Changnyeong county police station initiated an investigation by arresting the 9 year old’s step father “A” (35 years old) and her mother “B”(27 years old).

A and B were raising 4 children together. While three of the children were born between A and B, the 9 year old victim was a child birthed from B (the mother) and her ex husband.

The “other three children” were never abused like the victim had been, but the parents always made the three children watch as they abused the victim.

The police briefing according to the victim’s testimony was horrifying.

The 9 year old child has been chained by her neck for days in a small attic inside her house like a dog. Her parents fed her daughter only once a day or even made her starve for the whole day. The victim was briefly released when the parents made her do house chores such as washing the dishes.

It gets even worse.

The stepfather would heat up a frying pan, red hot, and used it to burn the victim’s fingers. The mother would also heat up iron chopsticks like a soldering iron and burn the skin off the child’s feet. The parents would also use a glue gun and melt plastic, a type that would only become malleable when it is heated up to 200 degrees Celsius and inject the plastic on the child’s body.
the parents would also fill up the bathtub with water and grab the child upside down and force the child’s head in to the water just like a water torture.

around 10 am on May 29th, the 9 year old victim attempts to escape from her house,

risking her own life.

the victim’s house is located at the top of a 5-story flat. the 9 year old climbed over the fence of her balcony and walked across a total of 10 meters on a roof with a 45 degree angle slope!

when she finally made it across to her neighbors house, after finding that the house was empty, the first thing the 9 year old did was eating two instant ramen noodles and drinking a can of coke.

the victim ran outside and was found by a good Samaritan after 8 hours of walking on bare foot.

Currently all of the 4 children are in good care at a child protection facility and the abusive parents are waiting for their trial.

So what shocked me today?

how cruel humans can be
how courageous a 9 year old girl can become.

People's wickedness is universal and not peculiar to a particular tribe, culture or nation.
