The popular Oliha Market in Benin City, Edo State, was thrown into confusion on Wednesday as thugs invaded the market and chased away both traders and customers.

The thugs are alleged to be loyal to the state government and Peoples Democratic Party.

They are said to have barred anyone from selling goods in the market, according to some traders, who spoke with SaharaReporters.

The people claimed the thugs were infuriated because a trader in the market was seen with Adams Oshiomhole of the All Progressives Congress.

"I was asked to send a woman away from the market because she was seen with Oshiomhole during campaign.

"They then said I should mobilise traders to follow Obaseki to PDP and vote for him but I told them that everybody had the choice to vote for whoever they want.

"Suddenly today, over 10 PDP thugs in the area came into the market and started shooting sporadically.

"Everybody had to run for their lives. As it is now, nobody has been able to return to the market," Chief Sunny Erahengbo, Chief Security Officer of the market, narrated to SaharaReporters.

He added that the thugs were escorted by some police operatives.

He urged the state police command to ensure the safety of residents in the community.

"The Commissioner of Police should please do the needful and secure our lives and our traders.

"The police should take action before things turn around and people are being killed," Erahengbo added.

We all know the political party police escorts to commit crime in Nigeria. APC can do anything. They can organise thugs in PDP uniform just to claim false presentation. They are wicked.

When Omonoba was warning Philip Shaibu publicly, some were shouting partisanship. Oba of Benin knows exactly danger species among them all. PDP are merely crying foul just to nail Oshiomole and APC .

mtcheew. Only outsiders would think obaseki is violent. We edo people know on whose sides the thugs are, those who sponsored the invasion of police in the edo House of assembly in an unlawful manner just to install the lawmakers whose seats have since been declared vacant for failing to appear for inauguration within the legally and constitutionally stipulated period. Those who went and shot at the pdp vehicles, those who went to oba Palace to shoot and kabaka was seen bragging in the viral video that he was the one behind the attack. If I was the judge I'd have awarded 1b naira against the police for being used in the edo assembly invasion. APC can do anything to disrupt this election, including sponsring thugs and claim it was pdp who orchestrated their activities , which is what we are seeing now because they know this election won't favour them. We expect to see worse drama in coming days. You know what, this isn't the time for stories. Obaseki is winning this election. The same market women whom obaseki sold shops hijacked from Oshomole to, at ridiculously low amount after Oshomole had put the shops up for sale at the rate of 1m naira each? Same market women who were campaigning for obaseki alongside edo NURTW?

I'm busy right now , preparing my wards for the election, just came back from the local govt chair's office. Make una no distract me abeg. We have gone far beyond this. All we are praying for is for the election to hold.

Don't mind them jor. Since the beginning of this campaign, pdp had been peaceful in conducts all along. They just want to use kabaka boys to change the people's minds by taking to violence but e no go work. They're simply playing their trump card. I urge security operatives to swing to action and arrest those idiots and never release them until after election. They must be interrogated. Those who shot at pdp vehicles who confessed being sent by the apc to assassinate pdp members are still in the police net. If ize-iyamu got 20% of edo votes, he must be super lucky. They have been angry at the result of the opinion polls conducted by channels tv yesterday in which obaseki led ize-iyamu falala. This has caused great shock in their camp since last night and there had been chaos here and there ever since. Election no be by force na. We told them from day one that obaseki is winning this election but they never wanted to agree.

Obaseki isn't a violent man. Is it me someone would come and change his mind now against obaseki or my mama wey be head of market women for uselu who spent lots of money campaigning for obaseki? She's not a politician but has so much love for this man or my dad who's a friend to the local govt chairman and a retired oil and gas man?. Only those who are not from edo would believe this crap. We full ground here. Kabaka would commit suicide laslas.

He added that the thugs were escorted by some police operatives.

"The Commissioner of Police should please do the needful and secure our lives and our traders.

We told u all Buhari and his cabal and several APC Governors are backing Obaseki, they will bury Oshiomole politically on election day. They have succedd in removing neaturlizing at the Federal level.

Obaseki has won this election both by popular votes and by federal might, the police, and other security agencies will work for Obaseki on before and on election day----Quote me

Over 4 court Federal high court cases coming next week , instituted by APC members, PDP and other political parties respectively to determine whether APC has a candidate in Edo election....APC will 99.9999% most likely be disqualified from the next week Edo election by any of the four to five court cases based on the APC primaries wasn't conducted by the Victor Giadom NWC
faction which legally recognized by two separate Federal high court rulings APC which documentation is available in public domain and where fowared to INEC and also stating any Edo state governorship primaries not conducted by Victor Giadom Court backed NWC is an illegal primary, rather the primaries where conducted by the illegal Late Ajimobi NWC illegally and hurriedly constituted by Oshiomole, which is not backed by any court ruling or can they provide any court ruling documentation to back their legality of the Oshomole self constituted late Ajimobi illegal NWC.

Edo election is all about 2023

Oshiomole, Captain Osa Okunbor and Tinubu are just wasting money paying Edo lawmakers and comommissioners to resign or declare support for ize iyamu.

Obaseki is half APC and half PDP

Obaseki will return to APC after almost two years when he has been reelected but he will still reward PDP chieftains and members for giving him their platform to contest..

since you know more about the security situation of the market than the CSO of the market?

This the reason why I will hate Buhari if he allow thugs to kill innocent people because of election.
If the useless commissioner of police is compromise then he should be changed ASAP.
How can useless idots force people to vote who they no like. Instead of campaigning the PDP are banking on activities of their thugs and Mr president is keeping quiet. This is not the time to keep quiet, I think the APC governors should have a meeting with the president ASAP.
