The 40th President of Rotary Club of Umuahia, District 9142, Rotarian Lynda Dimgba has said that her administration will embark on economic empowerment and Community development to encourage the growth of SMEs in Umuahia, Abia state.

Speaking at Margaret hall, Umuahia shortly after her installation as the Pathfinder President of Rotary Club of Umuahia, Rtn. Dimgba said the club under her watch will empower ten (10) women and youths involved in Small and Medium scale business with micro-credit facilities at fifty thousand naira each.

She said her administration will also provide Rotary customized umbrella for petty traders and engage youths and women in two churches of Umuahia local government areas (North/South) in skill acquisition seminar and workshop.

Other areas her one year tenure will focus on, according to her include: disease prevention and treatment; basic education and literacy; water and sanitation; maternal and child health; peace building, conflict prevention and resolution and environmental protection.

She said Rotary Club of Umuahia will carry out hand washing campaign and hygiene education in five primary and junior secondary schools in Umuahia education zone; provide portable and running water; carry out seminar on public issues arising from COVID-19 pandemic in primary, secondary and higher Institutions also in Umuahia education zone.

The words of the 40th President of Rotary Club of Umuahia, "I wish to thank the board and members of the Rotary Club of Umuahia for the honour given to me to serve as the Pathfinder President for the 2020-2021 Rotary year. As we always say, Life Begins at 40.

"In this Rotary year with the theme - Rotary Opens Opportunities, it is our belief that by God's grace, Rotary Club of Umuahia with her partners and awardees will be impactful in our society by executing effective and useful projects".

While acknowledging the Installation Chairman and Secretary, Rtn. Slyvester Ibeneme and Rtn. Michael Olu, colleagues, friends, Business associates for their support, Rtn. Dimgba congratulated the awardees for their outstanding performance and impactful contributions to their Communities and to humanity in their areas of profession, community service and vocational and international contribution.

In her valedictory speech, the outgoing 2019/2020 Connect President of the club, Rtn. Prof. Melody Modebelu appreciated God and members for the success recorded in her administration and appealed that such support be extended to her successor, Rtn. Dimgba.

"I am very happy that I have successfully completed my tenure despite COVID-19 pandemic challenges. I am happier that our club has prepared another distinguished leader to take the mantle of leadership of the club from me", Rtn. Modebelu said.

Earlier in his welcome address, Rtn. Sylvester Ibeneme, Installation Chair, 2020 said the 40th installation of President Lynda Dimgba represents a milestone in the history of Umuahia Rotary Club, adding that the club over the years has been led by renowned gentlemen and ladies.

A resource person from NSIA Umuahia Diagnostic Center NUDC gave a lecture titled: Role Of Diagnosis In Disease Management.
Pioneer charter president of the club and late traditional ruler of Ossah-Ibeku community, Eze Gabriel Ngborogwu Akomas OFR was given a posthumous award.

The President Vision Africa, Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha; Member representing Aba North and South Federal constituency, Hon. Prestige Ossy, traditional ruler of Etiti Ugwueke autonomous community, Bende L.G.A , Eze Ikwunna Ukwu, Lead consultant at IHP Consulting Services, Mercy Bello Abu, among others were honoured during the event which saw the District Governor Nominee, Rtn Grace Okaro, Assistant Governor zone 3, Rtn. Ogechi Oguama; Past Assistant Governor, Rtn. Chimdi Oluoha, Rtn. Rtn. Onyinye Nwachukwu, Njoku Njoku, Pathfinder President Mathew Nwachukwu, Past Presidents Chinedu Brown, Ekele Ochiabuto, President-elect, Ugochukwu Ajawara in attendance.
