If organizations, institutions and citizens know that they can be sued/punished/penalized for acting against what is acceptable, we will have less of absurd actions like this.

Did you read they were informed a long time before that they need to move out their belongings... and the consequences if they didn't? Too many people are just too stubborn. In countries where rules and regulations are enforced their belongings would've been garbaged period.... and not strewn about the campus.

On one hand I hate the idea of students keeping their stuff back in school because it's just irresponsible and careless. But at the same time I don't think their properties should be thrown out to rot.

The best thing would have been for them to store the items in a hall and let the owners come and retrieve them.

I have been saying this for a while. Nigerian youths have been mentally oppressed from secondary school up to NYSC. They are mentally conditioned to obey without questioning authority. No form of critical thinking is allowed. Hence, why they accept anything the Government does to them. Nigerian youths don't even know their rights as citizens of this country. This sad state of affairs will not change anytime soon.

What do you mean?... Do you mean everytime there's a break students are meant to completely evacuate the hostels with all their belongings?... Rooms are allocated per session and when going on a break you take what you need... You don't carry things like you're moving out.. Are you familiar with university living at all?.. Over time students acquire many properties from furniture to kitchen wares.. So you're saying whenever there's a break even if their hostel rent hasn't expired they should carry their chairs, tables, stoves, drums, toasters, portable wardrobes home?... Sir you are wrong

This is bad. They would have secured it for them with names tagged on it and when they come back they will pay a token to collect their property as a means of penalty for default.
