jesmond3945:Last Nigerian Webmaster after much begging to prove his competence that I gave a job to do, still messed me up, even over paid him to avoid the Nigerian factor, he couldn’t help himself, he still had to fuckery up as usual, 90% of them will mess you up, it is in their DNA. Yet these ungrateful wailers will still have the audacity to shout leaders are bad? 10 Likes 1 Share |

HEAVEN4444: This is just the truth. Indians have overpopulated the market. Indian webmasters outnumber that of Nigeria by 6 to 1. I think people should just stop thinking that venturing into IT means work will come looking for u, well maybe like 7-8 years ago but now the market is saturated. And more and more people are venturing into IT by the minute 13 Likes 1 Share |

boookworm:The market is still under tapped notwithstanding, the problem is that most Nigerian webmasters, programmers or whatever they choose to call themselves, most likely than not, will short change & mess you up. It is best you seek the services of @ least two webmasters, so when one defaults, the other will wrap up your project. 1 Like |

There is no saturation anywhere, Nigerians still getting jobs. CSTRR: Thank God you said something LEGIT, once you are competent, you will get jobs, but otherwise no shi-shi for you. Secondly there is no saturation anywhere, you just have to be good. |

Three foreign and one local job...my LinkedIn and cv is messed up and I cannot take anymore. I need to drop one to be able to take one now and it's given little time for development. The bar make sense thou. If you ain't getting it, you aren't looking well enough. 3 Likes 1 Share |

olioxx:Nigerians are still getting jobs, of course. But you have to be very very competent. The threshold for trust is very high. Most of the jobs are going to Senior engineers. They would rather trust an Indian junior developer than a Nigerian junior dev. And there are millions of Indian junior devs prowling for jobs. 6 Likes |

Try these gig sites Upwork.com Fiver.com Freelancer Youtube channel monetization I give out tasks there. Especially to Indians/Pakistanis/Bangladeshis I tried two naija guys, 1. No capacity (couldn't do the job within the timeframe I wanted) 2. Strung me along (told me they could instead of being upfront with me) 3. Lost time (the timeframe for my project had elapsed before I got a feedback) 4. Got greedy ( changed prices after pre-negotiations) 5 Likes 1 Share |

DSTVee: That was then bro. A lot of foreign companies now trust Nigerian developers. I have like 6 close friends that are working for foreign companies as developers and they are earning their pay in dollars. 5 of them have less than two years professional experience as a software developer. Don’t limit yourself bro. Note I am also I software engineer(Java) 2 Likes |

I am a writer but this issue also applies to my industry or any other freelance sector. It's mainly lack of knowledge. Many don't know where to get these foreign jobs. It's also down to laziness as many Nigerians have poor research skills. They will rather spend all day checking social media than create works and market their portfolio. We also have to work on our professionalism. The Nigerian work environment makes one lazy. The competence and professionalism is why Indians are sought for in the IT world. It's true some foreigners have a bias against non westerners. But there are still many others willing to give us a chance as long as you can prove yourself. Nobody who needs a professional will see such and deny them the opportunity because of their country of origin. Just make sure you have a portfolio of test jobs and market yourself on freelance sites and LinkedIn. Infact, if you can master the later, you will be swimming in dollars. I believe it's high time freelancers form an association to help each other. This is what Kenyans are doing and making leeway in the freelancing world. There's a Kenyan guy, Walter Akolo. He's done a lot for Kenyan freelance writers. It was through his Facebook page ( Remarkable freelance writers in Africa) that I got a job with an Australian firm. Half of the writers here are Kenyan, though more than 25 countries are represented in the staff strength. The same is happening in their tech sector. We need to come together and form such linkages for tech workers, programmers, writers, designers, and other freelance sectors. It will help promote Nigerians and provide the needed foreign exchange we can use for balling 18 Likes |
