Sex is not the only way to get HIV.He could have shared sharp objects with an infected person.

@Op,let him enroll in an ART center and he will be placed on ARV drugs. He would also be advised on foods to eat and ones to avoid. He should take fruits well to boost his immunity and abide by all other advise he will get at the center. He will do well.

cry Typing this with a heavy heart, I have this uncle who is 68 years old and around August he lost weight and was complaining about sleepless nights, headache..

He was taken for a test and they result came out positive.

His wife died 6 years ago.

Any chance of living long considering his age and possible weakened immune system...

We are planning to do another test to be sure and enrol him to a healthcare centre for the ART

There are government hospitals where people with such gets their medications free

Find out the one closer to him and let him be registered, he will be fine and back to good health if only he takes his drugs regularly

Your uncle should get enrolled and start taking his medication ASAP. Modern medicine has gotten so effective to the point that positive individuals who never miss a dose become practically negative by achieving undetectable status, meaning no virus can be found in the blood. In fact there are currently long lasting ARV shots that will make taking a pill every day a thing of the past.
We have achieved complete remission/cures, and medicine is constantly changing and getting better.

The worst is behind him, tell your Uncle it is not as bad as he thinks.

Hmmmm... So does he know how he got it?

He should inform whoever he's been having sex with about his status.
They may not know they have the virus also.

Tell your uncle that I Richy said it's notthe end of the world...

First, u have to really make sure that it was HIV. Because TB got the same symptoms as HIV.

<<many are living with HIV

<<HIV does not equal death.. HIV does not mean that he is going to die of it.many people with HIV live long and healthy live if they get medical treatment and take care of themselves

<< a diagnosis of HIV does not automatically means that you have AIDS

<< what he needs at this stage is support from family..when you panic, he equally panics too..stigmatisation kills faster than the virus.
