Donpaper: This is now beyond name. It’s indicative of the deep malaise in the force. No thinkers, zero initiative. The abuse with SARS could have been nipped long ago through active, innovative monitoring, transparent penalties/consequences for infractions etc. It dragged on as all the leaders do is sit in their offices collecting bribes from politicians and businessmen. If they can conjure a simple name unique to us, how will they find original, lasting solutions to the myriad of problems they face daily We need a clean sweep of police leadership. They are the problem, more than rank and file |

Re: IGP Announces SWAT To Replace Scrapped SARS by Reference(m): 9:46pm On Oct 13, 2020 |
This is what I am saying. The reason why I really can't come to terms with what is happening. What exactly is the purpose of this whole drama. Is it a revolution or a protest? Are people looking for something or do they want to give something, to give Nigeria direction. Because if it us a protest like we are familiar with the NLC type thing, it is merely an expression of anger, the theatrics. Nothing fundamentally changes. That is, the goverment goes through the motion without in reality any movement happening. They give with one hand and instantly take it back with another because they still command the narrative. A revolution on the other hand is a people centric, citizen driven narrative where the goverment in power listens and acts on the mandate of the people. The people decide what happens. What I have said countless times is that those protesting have not made any proposals as to how to get a proper police service working. They still leave it to the same goverment that has birthed and sustained a failed system to drive the narrative and reform itself for a new one. How can that be termed a success. What do we expect to happen. Old wine in new wineskin... musical chairs. Folks, if the police, law enforcement and the criminal justice system is to change for the better it can only be birthed by ideas coming from the people who have invested in reforms and they will do well to reject anything coming from goverment at this time which doean't have their input or else in five years the drama will repeat itself. You want to be free of sin and are receiving tips from the devil?....is this SWAT nonsense a joke or what. Is that the problem of law enforcement in Nigeria? Honestly I don't just waste my time with nonsense. |

Why the hell will the IGP adopt the name SWAT in replacement of SARS. To me it doesnt make any sense, the US use SWAT. They should find another name for it jare |

Same sars hoodlums Different uniform Different name Extortion and brutality continues Does it mean the Nigerian police force can’t stay a week without extortion? The dumb ass couldn’t even wait for a month before renaming his extortion and brutality crew from sars to swat, no be only swat na starch |

My vision of a SWAT for Nigeria are Men and Women with high intelligence from the fields of science ,engineering and humanities. The minimum qualification should be a B.Sc in the above. Fully equipped and abbrest with the latest technologies to combat crime and as such the FGN should enact an enabling law establishing it to give it the necessary legal teeth since their training is highly specailized and a clear departure from the regular police, they will be highly incentivised in terms of salary .In the US they are deployed by the FBI in their field offices nationwide and as such if properly kitted and trained, they can work in synergy with other agencies such as EFCC, NIA, DSS, Army etc.In fact they can neutralize Boko Haram insurgency. Make no mistake SWAT are more elite and rugged than SARS. They will not be seen at check points instead they are almost anonymous. I hope FG knows this otherwise its and audio disbandment. |

righteousness666: First of all I don't live in Nigeria. Secondly, I clearly stated that they should be prosecuted. Doing things the proper way will mean worse consequences for the fraudsters because they won't be able to just bribe their way out when there is abundance of evidence against them. How many fraudsters has SARS successfully brought a case against up to a court judgement? Of course I don't expect someone that thinks with their teeth to understand that harassing people at police checkpoint will never be the way to fight crime. |

sharpden: The SMART thing to do now, is demonstrate against low salary, poor training and poor accommodation of police officers and army personals. That might win Nigerians the loyalty of Nigeria Security Forces members away from politicians #IncreasePoliceArmySalary #QualityTrainingArmyPolice #QualityPoliceArmyAccomodarion |

This people are just bunch of fools that doesn't know what they are doing, every police organization all over the world have swat department that deals specially on special weapons that they need occasionally just like it sounded swat of any police organization does not go out always but only on special out that requires special tactical solution e.g terrorist situation, kidnapping cases and they carry special weapons so what are we talking about here , confused organization with contact officers for confused country under confused leaders.may god have mercy on us in Nigeria. |

Damn! The moment I saw the headline I knew these people had done a copy-cat move of the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT.Why do some of our leaders lack imagination? Why do they so much like cliches and tired clonings? Do they think Nigerians don't know what's going on in the world? The IG can do better with such arrangements as: Anti-Robbery Special Forces, ARSF. Or,for ease of memory- Crime-Busting Forces etc, but not SWAT for goodness sake. 1 Like 1 Share |

rontolo:Agree bro. Don't you think we gotta give them a benefit of doubt. You can't call for Reform when you still don't appreciate the little efforts offered. Before you end SWAT, let's access them. Moreover, the training will now be monitored and all eyes are now on them.Otherwise, our protest will soon turn to Independence carnival and the govt won't take us serious again rather as childish if we end every thing they come out with. |
