Religion as the worship of perceived supreme being did not start off as a basic human instinct, rather it evolved over time with events beyond caveman's comprehension and reasoning.
Over the period man began to accredit occurrences beyond the view to deity and then began to make up fictional characters to suit the narratives. These narratives evolved to become accepted norms and belief system which birthed the various cultures and races.

the word Illusion has been defined as a false or wrong perception of reality, or a misrepresentation of events which are not true.
these false perceptions are made to be accepted by all who in actual sense never experienced such phenomena neither could there be an empirical verification of claims to such experience, events, etc.

the illusions are further strengthened with myth and mystery to mask the inauthenticity of the distorted reality, making the situation highly incomprehensible and difficult for members to defend nor make a reasonable argument to an external entity
furthermore these false illusion are given sacred protection and held as supreme never to be questioned nor challenged, anyone who ventures into challenging the imposed belief is readily tagged a blasphemous entity and risk sanction which could be to death.

This is the frame work upon which modern religion is based ,not entirely as a new introduction or invention but rather as a modification and capitalizing on existing predisposition and inclination of man to divinity, which is evident in all races and region.

According to a reknowned psychologist Freud in his book title "The future of an illusion"
defines religion as an illusion, consisting of "certain dogmas, assertions about facts and conditions of external and internal reality which tells one something that one has not oneself discovered, and which claim that one should give them credence." Religious concepts are transmitted in three ways and thereby claim our belief. "Firstly because our primal ancestors already believed them; secondly, because we possess proofs which have been handed down to us from antiquity, and thirdly because it is forbidden to raise the question of their authenticity at all."
