In Colonial Lagos , Lady Oyinkan Ajasa (Lady Oyinkan Abayomi) was born daughter of Sir Kitoye Ajasa, a Yoruba aristocrat who was the first Nigerian to be knighted by the British, and Lucretia Olayinka Moore, a princess of Egba royal family, in Lagos, was born on March 6, 1897.
She schooled at the Anglican Girls' Seminary in Lagos and graduated in 1909. From there to Young Ladies Academy at Ryford Hall, Gloucestershire. In 1917, she attended the Royal Academy of Music in London. She moved back to Lagos in 1920 and became a music teacher at the Anglican Girls' Seminary.

It was during this time when she met a lawyer named Mr Moronfolu Abayomi ( the love of her life ) whom she married in 1923.

He was aasasinated 2 months later in court, she was devastated and didn't want to marry anyone ever again .

Dr Kofo John wanted to marry her and her response was, "you have to change your name to my late husband's name - Abayomi"
Guess what happened?

He agreed, married her and changed his name to Dr Kofo Abayomi .

Hmmmmmmm

Very interesting.

It would be insightful to know what formed the woman's request.

She didn't want to change her name? She loved marriage to an Abayomi? She wanted kids to honor her late husband?

And why the man agreed.

@farem: more stories like this.

We need our history.

There's no point disputing the fact that many a time; once a sane man meets that one woman who meets his one point core longing in a woman, he can do almost anything possible even at the periphery of conventionalism, but still within the limits of decorum, to show his love to her and willingness to have her for a keep.

Wannabe strong men, love has never been a sign of weakness.

False information, no link to any credible source.
Just conjectures and assumptions by feminist revisionists.

There's not a single Biography of the late Sir Dr. Kofo Abayomi that mentions he became an Abayomi after marriage, and this is someone who was very popular.
Even used that same surname Abayomi to attend school in UK way before getting married to Lady Oyinkan Abayomi neé Ajasa in 1930.

His son Dr. Kole Abayomi, an Ex DG of the Nigerian Law School, also makes no mention of it in one of his very extensive interviews with Punch Newspapers.

I can't change my name because of mere pússy. Except that pússy is the goose that lays the golden eggs.

For love stupidity I must say.

Why would a man dump his papa given name for something unrelated just to please a woman? To get into the woman's pant, he took another man's name to keep his memory alive and never cared what happened to his dad's. Goddamit. angry

I can't call him a simp because that will be too dignifying. I'm shocked, never knew such a fool walked the Nigerian soil.

GboyegaD:

Those wannabes are realizing that they do not understand the meaning of the word simp.

I actually checked 'simp' online and it generally relates to a man 'losing' his self-respect /dignity while chasing a woman who doesn't like or appreciate him.

So it seems a man cannot be a 'simp' if:
1. He is a relationship
2. If the reception of his attention is returning the favour.

Toor!

The issue is most of those that shout the simp thing are mainly very weak. So they feel everyone loses their dignity in relationship like they do.

Whooh! Some great insights
on pre-1900 and post-1900
Yoruba aristocratic history in
Colonial Lagos Island.

Dr. Kofo Abayomi, was a thorough
professional and the son-in-law of the
FIRST Nigerian to be knighted by the
British Crown.

Kofo Abayomi Street on Victoria Island (Iruland) exists as a permanent tribute and more to this iconic Yoruba-Nigerian
alpha male! wink

Dude was already in Wealth before the marriage.
He was marrying for love. QED.

People do so many things for love.

NB: His original surname JOHN was reflective of past history colonialism and possibly slavery. It had no sweet meaning to his African identity like the adopted Surname, ABAYOMI.

You sound so pained about another man's choice. It doesn't depict strength but your level of weakness.
