D issue he raised isn't about who d power plants are d with. D issue is that Atiku suggested selling these same plants that d govt wants to sell now. But APC kicked against it d same way they kicked against Jonathan increasing price of fuel in 2012

Follow the argument.

I replied to a statement that said Buhari would sell them to his cronies when in fact in the self same story it was pointed out that the existing majority investors ( who are not even members of the APC) are asking for more of the FGN stake.

Even were the FGN to sell its stake yo a crony, it would be selling a minority stake which is what it currently holds in the power plants.

And when Buhari sells them, he will collect them from the PDP stalwarts and give to his cronies. Not so?

How can he collect them? On what basis do you seize an asset that someone has paid for to give to your friends. If you can show evidence of just case in which this government has done it.

Everyone can have an opinion but all opinions are subject to facts.

And your reasoning also told you that Atiku would have given the refineries to his cronies, right?

At no time did I mention Atiku. Thats a rabbit trail I have no intention of pursuing because anything that anyone can say is conjecture.

Lets stay with the argument. The argument being that it is alleged that Buhari would sell assets owned 51% by local investors to his " cronies" The facts are that not one disco or genco sold by Jonathan has been compulsorily acquired by this government. The entire generating and distribution of electricity has already been privatised. FGN is merely a minority investor. Fact. You can't sell what you don't own.

Everyone can have an opinions but opinions are subject to facts.

The job of government is to govern not to take popularity polls. Jonathan did not go on with his plan. Thats his problem. He was elected to do what is best for Nigerians and if this means staring down the opposition and putting down unrest, he should have done it. Atiku lost the election. The opinions of the APC about Atiku are irrelevant. If enough people had voted for him he would have won and carried out his ideas.

Why are people so shortsighted. Dangote provides more than 80% of major household needs. Everything from maggi to sugar to cement is dangote. And u think it's a smart idea to shut that out
Besides, where were the other business men when dangote was sponsoring the govt policies. It's a capitalist society. So don't hate the player, hate the game. grin

When stupid buhari took over power from GoodLuck Jonathan, he say the previous administration did nothing, he met no infrastructure on ground. That there were nothing on ground he met. Now, 2020, he wants to sell off what previous administration built. If nigerians don't see that this man called buhari is mad upstairs, me I see it. Buhari, you can not build your own infrastructure and sell it, it's GoodLuck Jonathan's own you want to start selling? I pity your life. Life itself is an irony. What you can not build, don't destroy others that build theirs. Karma is really a bitch.

The FG supervises power plants but it does not own them. Does the ministry of communications or the NCC have to own telecom companies to supervise them? The situations are exactly the same. The only power company that the FG has significant shares in is the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

Absolute gibberish. No sensible government rules by polls apart from Donald Trump who mistakes government for television. Polls are for election. No government can be effective by following public opinion. In many cases, the public does not even have access to the facts and data behind government decision.

The mandate for governance is four years not weekly.

The government does not control the power plants. It regulates them. There is a big difference between the two words "controls" and "regulates". Control speaks to operations, finances, HR and day to day management. Regulate includes SLA standards, safety etc.

Does the NCC control the telcos or does it regulate them.

Words are fine details.

The government is selling its 49% minority interest. If you own 000000.1% of First bank you can sell it. You don't have to have 51% to sell your shares.

Madness... Assets built with about 4 Trillion will be sold at about 10% of the value. It's sad. We keep selling off national assets for crumps and leaving huge debt profile.

We can't leave the economy of this country in the hands of the private sector.

Who told you Government has no business in business?

We should be careful how we push this capitalism narrative. What the society needs transcends beyond profit.

Why has America the capitalist headquarters of the world maintained United States postal service that has made losses of about $70 billion in the past 11 years?

Why haven't they sold it to DHL or Ups?

Most European countries today that we want to run to operate socialist economy to a large extent. You go to Germany today citizens are entitled to free education, subsidized housing and health care. England, Sweden, Denmark, Holland same thing. Price of food commodities has been at almost same rate in the last 20years.

Let them leave the economy in the hands of the private sector and see if they will have the stable economy they have today.

You are 100% right. Thanks for presenting this side of the argument in such a brilliant manner.

Government actually has no business with business, rather they are to provide a good business environment, a sound regulatory environment and other functioning market institutions. My only problem with Nigeria's version of privatisation is that it involves selling assets to friends, family and cronies and creating monopolies instead of creating a competitive market for the teeming young entrepreneurs.
