I have been inundated with post replies from concerned Nigerians on various online forums and jobsites, who said they are taken aback by the humongous number of unemployed Nigerians been claimed by the “80million Unemployed Nigerians March for Jobs” movement. They said that that is over half of Naija’s population and that it does not make economic sense for everybody to be employed in any society. Well, I totally agree with these views. While the total number of unemployed Nigerians is way short of the 80million, I dare say the total number of Nigerians; young and old who are the victims of years of governmental neglect match the above figure.
Guys, check am now, Nigeria is the only country in OPEC that doesn’t have a national social welfare policy for her unemployed, aged and disabled citizens. This is why we should come out and march for jobs, and social welfare. Is it not smacking of crass insensitivity that a country so blessed with oil wealth and after 12 years of uninterrupted democracy, successive governments has not find it worthwhile to implement a national Social Welfare Policy for the unemployed; graduate and non-graduate, the aged and the physically handicapped? This is WHY we should all come out and MARCH for jobs!
