Looks like this power issue in Nigeria is irredeemable, especially since we have corrupt leasers....with the money our leaders embezzle yearly..if you put them together, Nigeria will become one of the best countries in africa.

Alternatively... let's reduce or even make free the levy, duty or tax on importation of solar equipments to encourage more importers and reduce cost.

Even with 500 trillion the same story will continue. As we have already known, power has always been a veritable source of embezzlement of public funds.

That is another way of saying there will be no uninterrupted power supply for the foreseeable future.
Unbundle that useless body and let state governments that have the means invest in power for their States. They can make arrangements with those States on how the profits will be shared. This will free up power for others States that cannot. Excessive over centralization is the bane of this nation. Everything has to come from Abuja and this is hindering growth and innovation in all parts of the country.
We cannot continue to do the same thing every year and expect a different result. It is sheer madness to think this present system will solve our power needs.
South Africa generates over 51000 megawatts while we have been cursed at 4000 megawatts for decades despite the billions sunk into that black hole that is the power sector. It's a shame.... A national disgrace on an unquantifiable scale that we cannot generate power while our billions are sitting comfortably in the hand of roguish present and former leaders.

The main issue is funding. Which iss an issue becase Nigerians want free power.

So how would you fix power if you were in charge?

How much do you think is needed to fix power?
Boss I watched a programme sometime ago titled mege cities, it was about Las Vegas, Nevada.
What they said was Las Vegas bought energy (electricity) from neighbouring states whose power generation were more than their needs or transmission. In other words, each state generates it's its own power and sell it's excess.
Nigeria generates about 5000MW or so they say, and sells about 2000MW to neighbouring countries, leaving it's citizens with deficit to be reduced by fuel dealers and sellers.
I can remember vividly, when I was schooling in LOKOJA, they brought in a new manager for NEPA and she was doing well. Electricity supply improved to about 16-20 hours per day. All of a sudden she was transferred and light returned to normal 8-12 hours per day. We had some guys working in NEPA and they said she was removed because of people at the top who ran petrol stations.
One of my colleague while serving also said something similar, that the problem is generating power, it's transmitting it to the people.
The very problem of every sector of Nigeria's wellbeing is that it is fully or partially controlled by the government, and they regulate it the way they desire.

I'd engage all the professionals in that field. I'm not a NEPA official or expert in it. They know how much it'd cost.
Also, I'm not vying for any office. Just to support all those that are qualified and capable.

Agreed, but a big part of the problem also is people bypass the meters too.

And when the dscos catch them, they behave like the Customs official who used a gun to chase away disco officals who caught him bypassing his meter.

Lets stop trying to look for deeper loopholes to justify why it wont work. The thing is, using a metered system would solve 95 percent of problems that revolves around finance as it concerns where it should go from consumer to provider. Those who bypass the meters, a different solution should be generated for them but this time, It would be on a legal ground. Prison sentence 2years. enforce it. people would not dare try it.

Another way of solving this problem is for every refinery in Nigeria, there is a power station. In Kogi state, the Ajaokuta iron and steel company has one of the biggest power plants in Nigeria. The people of Ajaokuta enjoy tremendous light ask around from those who have stayed there.
Sometimes in 2012, under GEJ, Abuja drew power from Ajaokuta power lines ask around and if you've been to Abuja by road from Kogi, you will see those cables.
Back to the matter, since our refineries are not functioning at the moment, why not draw power to closest communities and neighbouring states, but no, the govt keep spending billions on maintenance for refineries that don't give us nothing.
IN MY SINCERE OPINION, IF THE COUNTRY CAN ENJOY 16-20HOURS OF LIGHT PER DAY, EACH CITIZEN WOULD WANT TO PAY FOR MORE. But we have deficit in bills paid because people don't enjoy more than 4-8 hours of light and serious bills are distributed to the people.

Make una de there de talk #1 trillion. Yesterday, the proactive Governor of Edo state project OSSIOMO Power company, is already in the process of 24/7 uninterrupted power. They are connecting most parts of Edo gradually to the OSSIOMO power. People in Sapele Rd who reside around the High Court kept wondering when there was no light interruption. 'are we safe? Nepa nor gree take light' 'wetin de happen' was most of their response..
Edo is moving Forward.... Make una de find trillions..correct Governor

With 50MW? Which suppose to serve 50,000 flats of 3 bedroom. If connect more than that, there will be low current if possible breaker can trip off. Unless they are connecting to all single rooms in Edo, or that there's no upto 50,000, 3 bedroom flats in Edo state. All that the flats don't suppose electronics needs in the house.

I have solution to serve every house hold with 24/7 light for 25 years

Before any serious government should spend huge amount, the TCN should give us detail account of the budget and spending with a forensic report since 1999 to date.

I know. Let them stop forcing gencos to sell to the grid. Gencos should be allowed to sell to community directly.

Just one trillion?

Triple the amount, one trillion is too small for your non-existent power

Nobody knows the level of corruption and decadence in the Power Sector today!
From ECN to NEPA to POWER HOLDING - GEMCO and DISCOS,it is heart breaking!
No light, yet you increase bills for your darkness and a serious government approved that to say her citizens.Shame!
The worst is the Ikeja Electricity- compared to Eko-Eletricity,the difference is too clear and enormous. While Eko disco cleared/write-off the Debts of their Customers and replaced the Transformers and other vital equipments immediately they came into the office, that of Ikeja -Disco even continued with overloaded equipments till date,no single day without electricity Cutting-Off.Shame!. Eko disco has reduced prices from 50 to 24 as at last week for its Customers, yet the bills are increasing with Ikeja Electric and is this the way to bring industrialisation to the people of Lagos in particular and Nigeria and as a whole?

There is still the issue of selling power at a loss...ie the pricing of power.

Sadly i don't hve the values, but a report in one of our newpapers some time ago put the percentages of people not paying for power as high as 50% in some areas.

Even the Pricewaterhouse coopers report on power mentions that power stealing is a serious problem.

At the end of the day, the power stealing issue plus the fact that power is sold at a loss makes it difficult for funds to be generated...that's why we have the figures above.

(Anectdote...one of my relatives knows a high ranking DISCO exec. Said exec told him that a large number of folk in their area of oprtations don't pay, and it is affecting their company financially)

My apologies for not being clear.
I meant the value/amount unpaid by the big men and companies, who may not be as many in number compared to the masses that may be owing little amounts.
Thanks

That would not even be enough. When the said amount is availed, it would be LOOTED and the remaining would look like #5B. Then the actual available amount would become #5B which would stall production of electricity.

Even if Nigerian government give power sector 10 trillion dollars, it won't be enough because of the corrupt people working in that sector. Also in nnpc, this two sectors is where you will see all the harden criminals in Nigeria.
