It's actually an indication of widespread poverty. Why is it mostly SW towns that have that disgusting brown roofs? Why is it difficult to find such dilapidated settlements in the SE or SS?

These are the places many of you live in yet constituting nuisance on nairaland with empty bragging.

SMH.

Meanwhile check out the almighty Onitsha in Anambra state

It’s peoples family homes. Those houses are ancient and they belong to a group of people. A whole family. Not one person. You will see those houses in the older parts of the city. They are made from clay bricks and the roofs are that color because of weather effects. Other regions had mud huts so what are you saying?

So are you saying there's more poverty in Southwest compared to South East and South South?

And since when did brown roofs become a compass to measure poverty?
Yes.

SW has higher poverty rate than SE expect on papers.

Leading in the number of vulnerable households, open defecations, state insolvency, children born out of wedlock, indigenous beggars, malnourished children, brown roofs.

I don't understand how you people think. What's wrong with brown roof please?

As roof old(from 5years), won't it change colour?
Are you saying you still used thatched roofing in your Region or you change the zinc roof every 5 years?

All these stupidity from you all should stop.

It's not commonsensical
mine is not brown roof and the ones around is not either

I am not in the tribalism business but mud houses have been posted here from other regions. So remove the speck in your eyes before you go for the dust in other peoples eyes.

There is a big difference between mud houses and mud cities.
What we have in SW is called mud cities. A city filled with mud houses not few mud houses.
A heap or pile of it.
What do they even call a concentration of mud houses again?
Muddy or mudderly?

Point of correction. Not most but all. I've been there.
Even the almighty Ibadan is the same.
A pile of mud houses linked together by a major
Road.
If their capitals look like this, then imagine how an average village will look like

Some of the comments show so much ignorance!

Kudos to Gov. Oyetola. I hope he's able to work on roads within other towns. The road linking Oshogbo to Ife through Sekona is terrible. He needs to pay attention to rural roads that link farmers to the urban areas too. If only the state can make money out of it's God given mineral resource.

You obviously haven't been to Osogbo before.

Step out of wherever you are and educate yourself.
And you think that you have the same taste as SE people? What he referred to as slump is actually a heaven for you.

90% of Oshogbo is like that. Other towns and cities keep upgrading their housing development as time goes by to evolve with modernity but those places seem to be stuck in 1900. When I was a kid, we will travel to the village and I will be seeing some mud houses owned by a few poor people but fastforward to now, I can take you round my village and you won't see a single mud house. Not even the chief priest of a deity will accept to live in such house today. It is the same in other areas in the SE.

The fact that those houses are owned by families is the more reason they should be demolished and rebuilt, or at least renovated to make them fit for modern human habitation.

You are very ignorant.

You need to check the meaning of economic viability before you type.

Learn, read and argue with facts and figures before you type next time

Fact and figures that are written by you guys while city of muddys are staring us in the face.
Example of the fact and figures is where Ogun state is supposed to generate the highest IGR in Africa with the lowest poverty rate in South while their capital Abeokuta looks like this

Good work done.

But those other towns roads are important as well.

We shall soon embark on the construction/rehabilitation of Ejigbo township road, Ido Osun township road, Gbongan township road, Ile-Ife township road, Kuta township road, GOF-Ori-Oke Pure Water road, Halelluyah Estate, Osogbo, Inisa township road, Ila-Arandun road and Ikirun township road among others.

That isn't how to show level of poverty. This is the index below.

Meanwhile, those buildings were there because new sites are being developed.

In every Yoruba town, that's how it's mostly done, old structures are barely renovated, new ones are developed instead since there's enough land

Would you believe if I tell you no one might be living in those structures

Go and sit down. What's in Oshogbo that would attract sane minds there. Brown roof dwellers. The problem with you Yoruba folks is that you dwell so much in ancestral stuff. What will happen if all these old rusted zincs are removed and change to modern aluminum sheet as obtainable in Igboland?

So in your wisdom, one picture is enough to judge an entire state capital....

You obviously need help.
Not just one picture. Brown roof old structure is very very common in all Yoruba land/SW. The ones in Ibadan dey learn work where Akure own is. Same as Oshogbo, Ijebu-Ode etc. Aparteof GRA and Estates in those places I mentioned, majority of the locals live in those brown roofs though the structures have been in existence for years unlike Igbos that started its development after the civil war.

Mumu boy. How many Igbo people are in Oshogbo, Ijebu-ode, Ore etc? Remove Lagos (Igbo dominated territory) from SW, the rest are nothing to write home about yet you compare ur dilapidated cities to Onitsha, Aba, Enugu, Abakaliki? U guys should deal with the brown roof structures first before talking rubbish.

Nobody or any culture is stopping them from demolishing or renovating it. They just don't have enough money to do so.
Come to SW and see the through definition of poverty. They don't even have enough money to buy normal clothes na only old agbada them dey wear up and down

It's obvious that city like osogbo, Ibadan , Ilorin are very old hence, they've a lot of old houses, or do u expect us to destroy our father's house? Since those cities are very big compare to yours, we still have more than enough lands to build on. They're our ancient houses, it's just common sense, Europe, Middle east still have some very old structures, does that means they're undeveloped. We have a lot of land to build our modern houses on, a lot.
