Home Secretary Theresa May is setting out plans to reform the student visa system, amid criticism that it is a "soft" route into Britain.

Under the coalition's plans, individuals will need to prove that they are coming to the UK to study, rather than work, and show they have the financial means to support themselves.

The changes are designed to reduce immigration by making the system less open to abuse by bogus students.

The government has pledged to reduce net migration from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands by 2015.
Also students MUST return home after study UNLESS firm offer of skilled job.

Schools will get very strict about being paid IN FULL.
Too many students starting course then falling out to work.
No work cleaning cars or picking food after study. Straight back home.
I think soon students will have to place return airfair in bank to be held by Gov before visa issue.

It can't be that bad now, return airfare ke?
The part i didn't really like was the fact that even those already in the UK.

will that not amount to a retrospective law?

i can see some lawyers salivating. this is surely open to legal challenge, especially if any attempt is made for this to apply retrospectively to those already in the UK.
