The present constitution which was enacted in the year 1999 and last amended in the year 2011, by President Olusegun Obasanjo is no longer in use.
There is zero to no regards for human lives, rule of law and most especially the constitution anymore in Nigeria.
To those who feel they are above the law(those in power),the constitution is a mere piece of writing.

**The true fact is that federalism/Democratic system of government is a failed mission in Nigeria**

**A million options but, which do we consider the best??**

Confederation____ Most likely known as confederacy is a union of sovereign states, coming together for the purpose of establishing a common goal.
It tends to deal with a form of intergovernmentalism/independence, where the states have to manufacture and consume 95% of the proceedings gotten from the activities performed in it.

Under the confederal system of government, decisions or laws made by the government are hundred percent weak, unless member states come together and agree to it. Security units are established by each state, making the security system more competitive and forward.

There would be a high level of competition amongst member states and mind you, this is what an economy requires for growth.

What is being practiced in Nigeria??

I tell you that even the citizens of this great nation won't be able to answer this question.

The federal government, being the main hub of power receives all the revenues or capital generated by the state and shares this resources according to what it deems fit, back to the states.
Nigeria as we all know it can't boast of a functioning economy but, rather crude oil gotten from the main oil producing states in Nigeria (PH and Delta).
Then comes Abia,Lagos and Anambra, economy's energy boost.

Mind you,the capital generated from this 6-9 states are used to develop only a particular region in the country(mind you, this region contributes little to the economic growth of the country).
Neglecting the sorry state of the other regions.

Fate of the country***

The country won't change if action is not taken.
It's either the constitution is changed, amended, vote in a tangible leader or we go into practising con federalism.
Else,Nigeria which has already hit the rocks will eventually compete for crumbs.

Here are a list of countries that practice/practiced con federalism**

1)Belgium
2)Canada
3)USA
4)European Union and so on.

The only power of the enemy***

TRIBE.

They already know the weakness and would stop at nothing to make it known.
Division never applauds a mission. It is the only winning power and tool of the enemy,to cause confusion amongst the sons of men and pick them out like broom sticks.

Practicing con federalism in Nigeria might just be what the nation needs to get back on track. After wasting 60 years of her existence feeding a particular region in the country.

I would have typed more on the sharing of power but,I can't cause I'm here to just ask a simple question. Though I've typed more than necessary smiley

Why don't Nigerians consider con federalism?? Will it be right to practice such in Nigeria?? YES/NO and why do you think so?

Please do well to use the comment section below smiley
I'm open to enlightenment

Thank you!

Nigeria is a business (country) created by Europeans, with the sole purpose of exploiting all the natural and human resources found in the geographical area to fill the needs of developed Nations.
There are no people called Nigerians as the constitution implies, but there are many kingdoms ruled by kings which are currently subjected to Governors by an imposed constitution.
It's very slavish to be called Nigerian.

53 years ago. Lt Colonel Ojukwu, Military Governor of the Eastern Region, travelled to Aburi in Ghana to meet Lt Colonel Gowon, Military Head Of State. The agenda, was to restructure Nigeria. After 2 days, they agreed on a confederation. All 4 Regions would be autonomous, control their resources and even have their own Police and Military. The federal government would be very weak and no Region would be able to control another Region. Gowon and Ojukwu, signed this agreement in front the then President of Ghana, General Joe Ankrah. It was to be known as the Aburi accord. Then they all went back to Nigeria

And thats when trouble started. Gowon returned to Nigeria and realised that the agreement he signed prevented him and his fellow Northerners from getting what they most wanted, economic and political control of Nigeria. So Gowon went back on the agreement and Ojukwu had no choice than to declare Biafra. This led to war.

The reason why this story is important is that nothing has really changed in 53 years. The North still has a stranglehold on Nigeria, they control who becomes President, they control the National Assembly and they control NNPC. If anyone thinks the North is going to give up those privileges in the name of restructuring or confederation, that person should think again

Eventually, anyone who wants restructuring or confederation will have to face the same choice Ojukwu faced 53 years ago, accept Nigeria as the North wants it or go for your freedom

Gowon did not realize anything instead he was told to open his eyes by the same people who are shouting restructure the country. The same goons who falsely made hay out of Decree #34.

Because we practise a 'feeding bottle' economy

We confess to pattern our democracy like the US, but that's a big lie. what practise in Nigeria is best called centralised federalism that strengthens the centre and weakens the states and LGs.

I've been living in the US now for 4 years + and I can boldly say Nigeria does not practise a government that has a definition closer to federalism.

It's not funny that the world sees the US president (POTUS) as the most powerful president in the world but that's not totally true.

The US president is only powerful over the military (Pentagon) CIA, Secret Service and FBI. And his power over these agencies is limited as defined by the Constitution. The mayor of a country has more constitutional and authoritative power in that county/city more than the president.

A good example was when Trump deployed military to WH during the #BlackLivesMatter but the DC mayor openly said she doesn't want the Military in her city and the military guys disappeared back to Fort Bragg.

That's an example of a country that practices true federalism and not a president who would sit on Also Rock as the Alpha and Omega. The US president is only powerful on diplomatic and federal economy, each state has its well defines mode of governance which Washington and the president cannot alter.

Decree #34 is quite not the reason they want the country restructured.

That's more like the democracy that will actually shape Nigeria if all other alternatives fail. Don't you think??

The resources gotten from the very few states in Nigeria are used to feed the politicians and northern part of Nigeria.

In the North,95% of roads there are pothole free. And funny enough, few cars are driven on them.
States where commercial activities are being carried out are still battling with bad roads, preventing the smooth running of business activities.
Re: Opinion::::: Why Don't We Practice Con Federalism In Nigeria?? by Praxis758: 2:26pm On Dec 03, 2020
Valid point.

The northern military cabals at the twilight of Abdulsalam regime dug the archive and dusted these satanic document named 1999 Constitution which OBJ never saw but he (OBJ) used it to his advantage at the detriment of our will and wish.

Buhari was a big victim of this same document as an opposition politician. I remember him always crying foul during his opposition days and even promised to amend the Constitution to restore us as a true federalism country if elected.

The same guy is now harnessing the juicy (to the sitting president) but parasitic document to the citizens. The constution only favours those in power but they start shouting blue murder when out power.

Same reason why our guys do well when out of the country but get tied within the boundary of the country.

Bros, you're right on point.

God bless you abundantly.

How about independence??

And the fact that our government controls everything that happens in the country (including the main feeding bottle center).

The current 1999 Constitution was the making of Abacha between 1994 and 1995.

He gathered some myopic guys in the name of drafting a new constitution for transition to civilian rule.

I'm sure you can personally see the tyranic and dictatorship spots in the Constitution that only favours those in power and made the opposition a total losers.

No one needs to be told that uncle Abacha personally backed the document to fit his dictatorship, tyranic, tribal, religious, parasitic and cabalistic agendas after transition to civilian rule.

The simple fact that it was the making of Abacha's regime makes it morally, legally and collectively unfit for democratic usage.

The only Thing Wrong and UNDEMOCRATIC in the 1999 CONSTITUTION is The EXCLUSIVE LIST.

REMOVE IT AND LIMIT F.G AUTHORITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO FOREIGN AFFAIRS MILITARY AND TREATIES ONLY.

There is a slight - not major - error in your submission. The Aburi Accord was signed by 5 people:

1) Gowon
2) Ojukwu
3) Adebayo
4) Johnson
5) Ejoor

Thanks
