Grace to you and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

(1) GLORIFICATION OF GOD BECAUSE OF THE WORKS OF HIS CHOSEN IN CHRIST.

The verse opens up with Apostle Paul and other brethren telling the Church about how they gave thanks to a God always because of them, always making mention of them in their prayers.
We go to verse 2 and 3, why all this? You see the Apostle Paul and fellow brethren remembered them without ceasing because of the following:
➖WORK OF FAITH.
➖LABOUR OF LOVE.
➖PATIENCE OF HOPE IN OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IN THE SIGHT OF OUR GOD AND FATHER.

➖WORK OF FAITH:
Verse(s): 1 Thessalonians 1:3, James 2:14-26.

You believe in Jesus now, wonderful! Now you need works to back it up, because faith without works is dead, just as the body without the spirit.

Let us use the example given in James 2:15-16, if a brother or sister is naked and does not have food daily. And one of you says, “Go in Peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, is there any gain? This is what we are talking about, if faith does not have works, it is DEAD.

Abraham was justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar, Rahab was justified by works when she received the spies and sent them another way.
Now you see that faith works together with works, thus faith is made perfect.
Hence Abraham believed in God and it was accounted to him for righteousness and he was called the friend of a God(James 2:21-23).
➖LABOUR OF LOVE:

This brings yet again to that commandment of old(Lev 19:18) yet made new, LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR. Do to others as you would want others to do to you, this is the complete summary of the Law and the Prophets.

Loving your neighbour fulfills the Law as your Lord Jesus Christ commanded you to do and hence the reason why it covers a multitude of sins(1 Pet 4:.
➖PATIENCE OF HOPE IN OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IN THE SIGHT OF OUR GOD AND FATHER:

Now, by the grace of God as the Christ continues in Christ according to the grace of God by His Spirit grows fruitfully in faith(2 Peter 1:5-11) and abounds in love towards others.

This patience of hope in Christ of the Church in Thessalonica was evident in their persecution and tribulations that they endured and we can relate with this in one way and another, the affliction or suffering or hardship or persecution or whatsoever issue that you are presently owing through regardless of how long yet because of the patience of hope in Christ still endures.

What hope are we talking about? The hope that all of this being the manifest evidence of the righteous judgement of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer.
It is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you and to give you who are troubled in one way or the other rest with the saints when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire taking vengeance in those who do not know God, and in those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(2)THE EXAMPLE ACCORDING TO THE ELECTION OF GRACE OF GOD’S CHOSEN IN CHRIST.

We will look at three things now:
➖The election of grace in Christ by God our Father.
➖In demonstration of the Spirit and of Power, receiving the gospel of Christ from the evangelist.
➖Became a follower of Christ with joy of the Holy Spirit.

➖THE ELECTION OF GRACE IN CHRIST BY GOD OUR FATHER:

We move on to verse 4, let me remind you that you were chosen with a Holy calling before the world began, saved not by works in Christ Jesus our Lord but according to the LORD’s grace and purpose.
➖IN DEMONSTRATION OF THE SPIRIT AND OF POWER, RECEIVING THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST FROM THE EVANGELIST:

We move on to verse 5, the gospel of Christ Jesus our Lord through whomever it was to you, came not in word alone but in demonstration of the the Power of God and His Spirit(1 Corinthians 2:4-5).

The Power of God that deliver you through Christ Jesus our Lord from the power of darkness and conveyed into the kingdom of the Son of His love.
By which you underwent the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Spirit; Sanctification by the Spirit and sealing of His Holy Spirit, complete and total transformation into a new creature.
➖BECAME OF FOLLOWER OF CHRIST WITH JOY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:

We move on to verse 6, becoming of a follower of Christ Jesus our Lord with joy of the Holy Spirit. I’m sure most if not all of us here had a great experience of joy and happiness when we first gave our life to Christ.

(3)THE EXAMPLE ACCORDING TO THE ELECTION OF GRACE OF GOD’S CHOSEN IN CHRIST.

We move on to verse 7, which briefly talks about how they became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaea who believe.
May we all become an example of Christ to others in the name of Jesus.
We will be looking at three things now:
➖Spreading of the word of God’s chosen in Christ in every place.
➖The declaration of the works of God’s in Christ in their absolute devotion to Him.
➖The patient wait in perseverance for the coming of deliverance from the wrath to come by Christ Jesus our Lord, Redeemer and Saviour.
➖SPREADING OF THE WORD OF GOD’S CHOSEN IN CHRIST IN EVERY PLACE:
Verse(s): 1 Thessalonians 1:8

We move on to verse 8, for from the Church in Thessalonica, the word of the Lord sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaea, but also in EVERY PLACE, O WHAT A CHALLENGE TO US ALL. Their faith toward God went out to the point that Apostle Paul and the brethren didn’t need to say anything concerning them.
What kind of faith are we talking about here? That PERFECT FAITH, that faith made alive with works just like the body is made alive when the spirit dwells in it.
➖THE DECLARATION OF THE WORKS OF GOD’S CHOSEN IN CHRIST IN THEIR ABSOLUTE DEVOTION TO HIM:

We move on to verse 9, other people declared them to Apostle Paul and the brethren what manner of entry they had to you
Do you understand? Let me make the picture clearer.

The people were just astonished and amazed at the Church in a Thessalonica that they went to Apostle Paul and the brethren asking them, what did you tell this people? As in what did you put into this people? Was it Christ Jesus our Lord that came down from Heaven and preached to them personally or what?
They were also astonished at how they stopped serving idols and turned to the true and living God.
How we can relate to this is turning away from our own idols, that thing that is No. 1 in our heart and mind, that thing with our body and strength devote so much time and attention to.
➖THE PATIENT WAIT IN PERSEVERANCE FOR THE COMING OF DELIVERANCE FROM THE WRATH TO COME BY CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD, REDEEMER AND SAVIOUR :

Now by God our Father who will keep us from stumbling and present us faultless before His Majesty, we wait patiently in perseverance for the coming of The Redeemer and Mediator, whom He raised from the dead, evenChrist Jesus who will deliver us from the wrath to come.
Let us all therefore be watchful and prayerful, consistently making supplication for all saints in the universal Church of Christ.
Waiting patiently to obtain the promise ofSalvation, Everlasting life and inheritance of the kingdom of God.

(I) Pray to God for grace that will enable you to live that Christian life in such a way that your faith goes out, and it is testified of you.
