you are correct.

personally I believe the Yoruba's adopt some of our words just as we adopt some of their words which makes it a fair share

even just as the Igbo adopt some Edo and Yoruba words and both adopting Igbo words

these are what makes us unique as a people but some tribal bigot nor go let person heard word especially the Yoruba people

I don't see reason why one clown will come online to make nonsense rant.

Lol... Sometime in future.. someone will soon claim that Benin borrowed the word oga from them

Edo is originally Ado. Is from Yoruba words. Igodomigodo people cannot say d word Ado like d Yoruba does, they prefer to say Edo until this day.

All yorubas called the Edos "Ado" because is Ado that's meaningful

this really show you know nothing that relate to history

please research your direction

From Kogi, Lagos, Kwara, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun reach Benin republic all our Yoruba parents refer to Benin as Ado unlike Ubinu which is derogatory.

The Yorubas that migrated into Igodomigodo saw unoccupied lands and called it "Ado" which means our new settlement.

It's now the Yorubas start calling it Edo unlike our parents.

We have Ado yam meaning Edo yam variety

We have Ado pepper

We have Ado Plantain etc all named after Edo products in d southwest.

All this one is story for the gods....

Give me a historian .. Yoruba or not that said that Yoruba gave Benin the word Edo...

According to Egharevba, he said When Ewuare became king he rewarded Edo so many gifts

According to Iro Eweka, he said When emotan couldn't accommodate Ewuare, she took him next door to a man called Edo

I've given two accounts as to the origin of the name Edo...
Now can u tell me the circumstances that led to the name Edo and who named it?

Also the Benin are also called idu by the Igbos... Does that mean the Igbos are the originator of the name Edo?

And lastly Ado doesn't mean our new settlement..

I checked Ajayi Crowther dictionary and it clearly doesn't mean anything settlement... Stop lieing

No be me talk am but the Yorubas knows their history in Benin. We just don't wanna look like we're land grabbers to the Edo people.

All the early Yoruba and South westerners are now identified as Edo people.

Your Oba knows the reason why he said he is the son of Oduduwa of Ife unlike saying he is the son of Ogiso Owodo.

Benin Mythology believe that Oduduwa came from Benin... Its up to u to believe that or not ..But I'm not ready to argue that as they are all myths... Ife,benin and oyo

Also... If the early Yoruba were the first settlers in Benin, can u explain how they lost their language in Benin land?.. like u guys have dialects everywhere in southwestern Nigeria that never lost their tongue but it was the ones from Benin that lost their tongue....

All words cannot be in a dictionary that's almost 200 years old.
Ado is cultural in Yoruba. There's no Yoruba States that doesn't have Ado even is in Lagos.
The first Oba of Lagos was named Oba Ado simply he came from Edo.

Uselu is in Benin, Ondo, Owo and Ekiti etc

No known origin for Ado but is more of a cultural thing...anywhere Yoruba goes their culture follows.

Serious Myth from pit of hell but not everybody in Edo will believe that.
It was adopted so that people like you will not rebel against Oba of Benin that originated from Ife

When oba ado was born in Benin,... And his original name was Edo... Goan do ur research.. it was when he came to Lagos that he was called Ado

Uselu is in Benin, Ondo Owo and Ekiti etc
Coincidentally, these are the places Benin had more influence in

Since there is no known origin for the word Ado but there is for Edo... What impetus do u have that still makes u think that Yoruba gave the word Ado to Benin?

Ibugbe means a house or place of abode. Ado is old school Yoruba word while ibugbe is modern.

Uselu is clearly Yoruba word which means "Making of a city" if Bini and Yoruba are using it it can tell u they're same thing but not Igodomigodos language.

Yoruba street is a recent naming just like Lagos street in benin

your illusion will not work

if you want to talk about camp for war ........

then I will tell you that Yoruba never in history wage a war against another tribe except themselves the only war they wage against another tribe was Oyo against Fulani and they lost

Pls first thing first... What is the difference between Igodomigodo and Benin
The problem of the highlighted is because you don't speak and understand the Yoruba language. A Bini that can speak Yoruba language will understand the differences.
Igodomigodos are the real native of Benin city or Edo. The Ogisos of Igodomigodo were rulers of the dynasty. but Ile Ibinu only came after Yoruba migrated into Benin and Oranmiyan their leader coined the word for them.
Before many Yorubas had migrated to Igodomigodo because their businesses were viable there. Later the Yorubas that came back home from Benin informed the Ooni (Obalufon) about the Igodomigodo's oppression of Ife people and they now requested for a leader from Oba Olufon the then Ooni of Ife. Oba Olufon gave them Oranmiyan with soldiers and arms to defend the Ife people in Igodomigodo.
Later Oranmiyan named his settlement Ile ibinu to differentiate it from Igodomigodo. Ubinu expanded and overshadowed Igodomigodo natives.

to everyone reading,

The name Edo came to light during the reign of Oba Ewuare 1 who was trying to repay a head servant of chief Ogieva Nomuekpo name Edo
who save his life while he was still a prince because his junior brother oba Uwaifiokun was chasing him to kill hence the act Edo shown to the prince was that of love ( so that makes the word " Edo" to mean love ) just like in the bible meaning of a name is done through the action that brought the subject to historical light.
