Seadogs decry violence against women, girls

The National Association of Seadogs, also known as Pyrates Confraternity, has urged both the National and State Houses of Assembly to abrogates laws that impede easy prosecution of violent crimes against Women and girls

The association stated this on Friday in a function to mark the International day for the elimination of violence against women.

The members came out in their numbers to create awareness on the streets and sensitize the public on the rights of women and girls.

They carried banners of different various inscriptions , lending support for the protection of the right of women and girls.

The President of the association, Chinazom Nwankpa harped on the need for the protection of the rights of the women and minors in a time like now, where violence had become the other of the day.

He noted that other decks of the association all over the world were also taking part in the celebration.

He said,"In furtherance of NAS age-long practice of fighting social injustice, it became imperative to lend our voice to the campaign, calling on state legislators to abolish laws which prescribe and encourage domestic violence against women.

Other notable advocacy and charity activities carried out by the association during the occasion included Wole Soyinka Lecture Series, Ralph Opara Memorial Lectures, Umalokun Memorial Lectures, Judicial Challenge Initiative, and Medical Mission, among others.
