ProphetM0hammad: It's either you are a convenient liar, or your information about the strike action embarked by ASUU is limited. The salaries of ASUU members were stopped b4 the strike was embarked on. Not the other way round. If you consider "no work, no pay" as good policy, yet oppose "no pay, no work" then there is an integrity issue here. 2 Likes |

ProphetM0hammad: The truth is the government doesn't want to pay but they know the consequences so they won't try it. Ngige already tried to initiate the no work no pay thing just as he did with the NMA it but he failed. ASUU is the only union in Nigeria that really knows and does unionism. 1 Like |

liltee123:...this is the aim of this useless government from hell, to perpetuate the stalemate and destroy the future of southern youths. No good can come from the Islamic north, by fire by force Nigeria must break. Here's the caveat, No northerner must ever and never be allowed to live or do business in Yoruba land again if they survive what is coming to them. No mercy, no appeal. 2 Likes |

Ibegtodiffer: You mean the salaries of the ones that rebelled and refused to register on IPPIS? Both are good policies But you know even if you get your appointment letter today, you have to work one full month before your first pay/salary |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by ProphetM0hammad: 9:59am On Dec 07, 2020 |
zicoy6k:What are some of those consequences? Ngige should negotiate with them and offer them two months salary. |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by OdaNobunaga(m): 9:59am On Dec 07, 2020 |
ProphetM0hammad: Western Union , I personally feel paying the lecturers withheld salaries will empower them to prolong the strike much further. If FG is serious about ending it, they should hold on to those salaries until ASUU is exorsted. Everybody has elastic limit. |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by Ibegtodiffer: 10:01am On Dec 07, 2020 |
ProphetM0hammad: That won't matter since it's better to fight on the side of truth. FG promised about a week ago that all payments relating to wage would be concluded last week Friday, as a sign of commitment. ASUU on its own part, was supposed to call off the strike today as a sign of commitment., while other discussions goes on, and schools start preparations for resumption in January. But even the agreement that is one week old has been broken by the FG. Yet, with very limited info, you're here blaming ASUU and painting the FG as perfect. That is the height of bias. I will appeal to you to change the name of your handle as your thinking, dishonest & unfair position is a dent on that name. 2 Likes |

liltee123: I can remember vividly in 2013 i was in 300lv was about to start counting down to 400. Then ASUU happened at first it was a warning strike we were chilling na' like joke the strike stretched into 7months cobwebs and dust colonised my handout at home. In december 2013 schools with money started paying ASUU i guess and left d strike just for students to write exams.. as school resumed a week later we started exam, ppl even forgot matric number, omor carry over was like bonanza. Bottom line is ASUU doesnt care bout nigerian students na dem pocket. |

Now this ASUU exco get sense. I thought after this long they will suspend the strike on the promise of a lying government . I would have said they just let students suffer for nothing. Last last FG no go honour their agreement. So let them pay first. Dont be like NLC 2 Likes |

Ibegtodiffer:I'm not painting the FG prefect. But FG will continue to give ASUU several empty promises. Imagine they did a meeting and they said they've agreed on 65B, then another meeting that it's now 70B, I already started to sense deceptions at that point cos it didn't make sense. They promised 65B and haven't released any kobo and suddenly increased it to 70B. At this point if ASUU demand that the Government pay them via Western Union, FG will agree, but it's all a lie. My problem with ASUU is that i want ASUU to be realistic. Most of them are partisans too and some of them helped to bring this evil government into Power, this administration does not like Education hence ASUU have to bring their demands to the barest minimum, one that is feasible with the Government for now. Then going forward should make sure with other well meaning Nigerians not to have this kind of Government rule us again. ASUU might decide to go on strike for 3 years and it won't affect Buhari and Adamu in anyway. But the Students time will get wasted and the lecturers might not get paid too. I know for sure Christmas won't be the same for families of many lecturers this Year and some of them still have children in private secondary and primary schools and have to pay school fees by January 1 Like |

Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by ProphetM0hammad: 10:29am On Dec 07, 2020 |
OdaNobunaga:The Government is careless in everything. Some of them still got paid till August. That method won't be effective. The salaries should have been stopped since long ago |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by ProphetM0hammad: 10:34am On Dec 07, 2020 |
Ibegtodiffer:FG will agree with any demand made by ASUU, but everything is on paper. ASUU should get ready for 3 years strike, with no pay of course. |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by s4short: 10:34am On Dec 07, 2020 |
bluefilm: I wonder the factors you used in concluding it has been perfect for ASUU maybe because they waste students time and still get paid. Are you aware that since 2009 ASUU has been going on strike for one same thing? That means several months or even years wasted on one thing yet no real headway till today and somehow you think strike has been effective, it's really quite unfortunate. |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by Ibegtodiffer: 10:50am On Dec 07, 2020 |
ProphetM0hammad: That is the issue. The superficial info you have is what you trust to make bold but incorrect assertions. The raise from N65B to N70B was meant to accommodate the Earned Allowances of non-academics. The Earned Academic Allowance (for ASUU) has not increased despite the N5B increase. Another gap in info on your part... An administration's hatred for education should not make us all cave in. On the watering down of her demands as you have suggested, ASUU has done that. N220B to N65B is a drastic sacrifice., and that decision is in consideration of the exigencies of the time, not on the basis of FG hate for education. On the "no effect on Buhari" if strike goes on.. While it is difficult to understand, if you're a student, it is better to have improvement in the Universities than rush to graduate generation of half backed graduates. We have science based students/graduates who can't operate a microscope or a spectrophotometer., yet they want to graduate & become the leaders of tomorrow. If as a leader Buhari ignores the need for students to be in school, then the FG should enjoy the consequences of idle youths roaming the streets. This FG would also be remembered for consequent ripple effect of it's actions of today. Finally the need for money to celebrate Christmas is a little less significant. Prior to Salah, salaries weren't paid. So nothing spectacular. Prophet, let me rest small, Lol. Later. 2 Likes |

ProphetM0hammad: Hahaha...if you know the number of ASUU members that have moved on, you no go believe. No salary earner can run a home for 6,7,8 months without salary, yet without alternatives. Online book sales, online videos in areas of expertise, research grants, field research, NGO jobs are few survival alternatives. Not to mention that most Nigerians are street to the core...the hustle is on. Academia no be civil service...Lol 1 Like |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by zicoy6k: 11:02am On Dec 07, 2020 |
ProphetM0hammad: Let me first start by letting you know that a lecturer's job is tripartite in nature which consists of teaching, research and community service. During strike, only the teaching aspect is withdrawn, a lecturer is supposed to carry on with the other two. Most lecturers actually do research and community services during strike. Now, after the strike is suspended, lecturers work double or more to try to bring the academic calendar back to normalcy though it might take a couple of uninterrupted academic years. To achieve this, lecturers won't go on annual leaves and some other leaves. In addition, the lecturers who have enrolled under IPPIS are not being owed any salary. With the above points, you should be able to at least guess some the consequences. There are two extreme scenarios: truncation of the unfinished academic year and legal action. 2 Likes |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by proffemi: 11:05am On Dec 07, 2020 |
ProphetM0hammad: You need to be mindful that teaching is just 10% - 40% (my estimates based on a medium sample size) of an academic's work. While lecturers leave the classrooms and boardrooms during strike actions, their researches still continue. So, yeah, unless you have evidence that lecturers have stopped doing research or publishing in 2020, I'd say they've been working. Mind you, this is just to set the records straight. We aren't necessarily begging for salaries. Other than pitying my students, I wouldn't be bothered if the FG decided to sit on my salaries for one more year. Many of us are above such threats. 3 Likes |
Re: No Resumption Until FG Pays Withheld Salaries – ASUU by ProphetM0hammad: 11:08am On Dec 07, 2020 |
Ibegtodiffer:Most of them are just getting by. Nothing beats a steady income like a federal government salary, some in state universities are cashing out with admission runs. The difference is clear, the ones that have truly moved on are the ones that have migrated. Most are looking forward to the big payday and they even thought they've made an headway last week. |

proffemi: Do you also have any evidence that lecturers have not stopped researching and publishing? I think that's your personal situation, and the more appropriate one should be some or few of you. Biodun has come out to cry several times that Lecturers can't go back to class on empty stomachs. Looking at the situation of things in the country, it's certain that withholding salaries will affect majority of the lecturers one way or another. |

flemsy15: You are obviously a young man/woman... During the military era (especially during Babangida and Abacha regimes, starting with Babangida) ASUU strike, when Dr. Attahiru Jega was ASUU National President, lasted over 11 months! In fact, under Abacha, ABU Zaria was shut for 14 months (ONE YEAR & TWO MONTHS!!!) and students in that era lost 2 academic sessions- 1994/1995 and 1995/1996 (the two sessions were cancelled!). The truth is, anyone who went to school during the military went through hell. There was no National Assembly to apply pressure on the Government, human rights activists were hounded, jailed, and killed (some bombed out of existence during Abacha's regime!), newspapers were shut and proscribed regularly (Punch, Guardian, defunct Sketch, etc suffered this fate and huge losses), there was no social media (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc, etc); there were no smart phones (in fact there were NO PHONES AT ALL, we all used to queue at NITEL's public offices to make calls and everyone heard your conversation- a very harrowing experience it was!) to record anything; there was HUGE FEAR in Nigeria... Democracy, with its faults, is FAR BETTER! |

ProphetM0hammad:Yes, I do. You could also try a Google Scholar search if you wish. I think that's your personal situation, and the more appropriate one should be some or few of you. Biodun has come out to cry several times that Lecturers can't go back to class on empty stomachs. Looking at the situation of things in the country, it's certain that withholding salaries will affect majority of the lecturers one way or another. Nobody is saying that withheld salaries are not affecting lecturers. I'm just letting you know that this is not a group of people that the government can threaten with hunger. Most lecturers are resourceful enough to find effective coping strategies. Those who are not will be helped by colleagues. Have a good day. 2 Likes |
