THE founder of the Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oye-depo, has said no political party owns Nigeria.

Speaking in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, during a press conference, shortly after the dedication of the newly established Landmark University, he said Nigerians owned Nigeria.

He added that the political parties were just tenants, while Nigerians were the landlords.

Bishop Oyedepo said all Nigerians should ensure security of lives and property during the election, adding that this is where education plays vital role.

He urged Nigerians to vote for the candidates of their choice during the elections.

On whether it was proper for pastors to go into politics, Bishop Oyedepo said politics was a game of the public.

According to him, politics was a business for who chose to participate in it, adding that anybody could venture into politics, even if such person was an imam, pastor or even pope.

The Bishop of the Winners Chapel said it was not a crime if clerics decided to join politics, as he prayed for the nation to witness free and fair elections.

“Anybody that wins is my candidate during the election and we will support such candidate,” he said.

On the establishment of the Landmark University, Bishop Oyedepo said it was not a product of ambition but a liberating mission.

He noted the university, which commenced with 67 students, was set to ignite a national revolution in Nigeria.

Oyedepo said the institution would commence with three colleges, namely agriculture, engineering and business and social sciences.

as one of the most influential pastors in nigeria, i am not surprised with his comments but to whom much is given, much is expected. with the number of great men of God in nigeria, we are not surposed to still be in darkness.
these great men of God must stand up and stand out. this is time to say enough is enough. they must hit the nail on the head because ppl are dying carelessly in nigeria as a result of hardship forced on them by govt.
we need to move this country forward and the places of these men of God in the battle is of great importance. many are looking up to them for support. we need these pastors to come together with one voice and tell pharoh to let our people go.
darkness we must know is a thing of the devil and as long as we remain in darkness, we are not been loyal to the word of God which says; LET THERE BE LIGHT.

The problem is most of these men of God would rather sit on the fence than come all out and speak up for what is good.

He said Nigeria is for Nigerians! Really?

His comment is just like saying the sun is hot, he stated the obvious. We all know that no political party owns Nigeria. What has he done to make the lot of the common Nigerian man better? Burying his head in the sand. He's in a position that can effect massive change and yet all he can say is obvious things. Tunde Bakare, na you biko

@Tollu, what were you expecting him to say? To come and endorse your candidate? God forbid!
Thank you Pastor, for your efforts in the course of bringing hope/light to our educational system. I pray, this institution would create rooms for indigent Nigerians as well.

And you honestly expect the Bishop to throw his weight behind Pastor Bakare? After all the things Bakare said about him and his ministry? At least by sitting of the fence he has avoided using this meduim to slag off Bakare

I'm with you on that one o. We're the most religious in the world, yet almost the most corrupt, in the same breath.

What has he done to better the lot of the common man? He's one of Nigeria's foremost entrepreneurs; he's created thousands of jobs. With investments across the various sectors of the Nigerian economy, he's contributed his own quota in making the Nigerian economy tick. It's not until you throw your hat in the political ring that you can touch the common man.

First, congratulations to my chancellor. As an alumnus of Covenant University, I'm happy that Landmark University has finally been launched.

@topic: True talk! Too bad the political parties don't see it that way.

Papa i fondly agree with you,not only in Nigeria also in the states of the federation no political party should say she has a complete monopoly of the state,
Re: No Political Party Owns Nigeria -oyedepo by ALADE4J2: 6:14pm On Mar 24, 2011
Somebody has to remind Obasanjo that politic is not 'a do or die affair'. Nigeria is for Nigerians and NOT for the political parties. We a need a youth revolution in this country. We need to demand that people that have held elective offices and that have had political appointments should NOT seek elective office and political appointment again in this country.

Thank you Papa for reminding us again

@semid4lyfe; so you want the education to be free so that it can be freely abused? God forbid. If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. I want you to point out one of our past presidents or governors that have accomplish what he has accomplish, the we'll have a discussion. God bless OYEDEPO my father and my God ordained mentor. God bless Nigerians for Nigeria.

How nice it would be if we dont empty ourselves in the public. Having read the comments made,i am really surprised at however untamed some tongues are especially when it comes to Men of God. What do you expect Bishop to have said? Statements that would raise controversies?
About his schools, isn't it obvious that God's hand is upon his ministry? 2schools running without any external funding. Have you ever been to Convenant University for an assessment of students and facilities in comparison to the said cost?
Do you know how many students are on scholarship in Convenant University and the introduction of up to 100% full scholarship grants?
Lets bridle our tongues and channel our aggressions to the appropriate quarters. angry
