EndSARS Protests: Reactions Trail IGP’s Use Of Arms Order by NewBeijing: 7:15am On Dec 09, 2020

Reactions were yesterday divided on the directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to policemen to use their firearms to defend themselves when their lives were in danger.

The IGP had issued the order at Ebonyi State Police Command headquarters, Abakaliki, in view of the recent #EndSARS protests and calls for a fresh campaign against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

While Ohanaeze Ndigbo, chairman of United Progressives Party, UPP, and Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms, CODER, saw nothing wrong in the IGP’s directive to his men, Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Supo Shonibare, Benue tribal leaders and Second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed, described the order as unfortunate, saying the police boss had given his men license to kill.

However, addressing officers and men of the police force, Adamu asked them to use maximum force to suppress any form of violent protests, following laid down rules of engagement.

I'm not in support of any new campaign tagged #EndSARS.

There are a whole lot more going on in the country to protest about.

#EndSARS has been dealt with even though we all know police brutality still strives in the country. The name SARS is no more.

Let's change the tag and we'll all come out again.

You call it a senseless protest, eh? Many of our parents must have thought the same in their days... And here we're today confronted by what they didn't fight.

Every airline pilot flies with good intentions, but hijackers board with bad intentions, and that's not enough reasons for planes not to fly for the sake of good intentions.
The problem you don't destroy today will affect the next generation.

Though, you may not even understand wha I'm saying if you're still being fed, and yet to have a family.

IG as a trained cop has the responsibility of protecting the protest against hijackers, for the police should be for the people, and not against the people, because we're in the same boat, so, we protest even more for their own sake too.
