This will be the best thing ever . If they can pull this off I shall forgive this National Assembly. Imagine I filed a matter in court since January 2019 and ending December 2020, I'm yet to get to trial stage. In fact they should input a clause that lawyers be seriously penalized (e.g. Practice license suspended for 6 months) for delays or filing spurious matters because truly, we lawyers are the biggest problem with the Nigerian legal system 19 Likes |

“This bill seeks to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to set time within which civil and criminal cases and matters are heard and determined at trial and appellate courts in order to eliminate unnecessary delay in justice administration and delivery,” So you mean since 1999 they didn't know that something like this should be in the constitution, smh. 3 Likes |

Good move if this can be rapidly passed into law, this will also decongest correctional Centres and Facilities across Nigeria. |

I applaud this move! The NASS should also introduce a constitutional amendment to set a definite time frame within which pre-election and post-election litigation can be heard in the courts/tribunals. Assuming February is the new permanent date for general elections, I’d suggest all post-election litigation must end a week before the expiration of the term of office of the last office holder. This should bring about a more orderly transition 2 Likes |

RexTramadol1: Igbosere Magistrate Court. Though COVID and now court closure have played a part but we should've been advanced now if not for the opposing lawyer's antics and the court's hands as usual are tied with "in the interest of justice." 1 Like |
