Opinion : Despite Being His First Time Contesting, Chief Emma Okewulonu Has Defeated The Veterans In Imo Politics

In Nigeria at the moment, one of the states with the most confused political atmosphere is Imo state due to the fact that the ruling party, APC imo chapter is not united and is currently being divided by the governor and the former governor of the state.

This was what played out in the recently concluded Imo north bye-election that saw the INEC declaring the APC as the winner of the election, without a candidate.

That’s by the way, with the outcome of the Imo north bye election that saw the PDP and its candidate, Chief Emmanuel Okewukonu becoming the one with the second highest vote after battling with two strong candidates of the APC in Imo state, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu votes was just 5,000 closer. Meanwhile, reports has it that some results were cancelled in about 34 polling units where PDP and chief Emmanuel Okewulonu has upper hand due to violence, maybe Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu would have beaten the strong candidates of the APC with a landslide.

For an opposition party to pull such a great crowd in a bye-election, their candidates has to be a very known person, and a veteran in contesting election, but the PDP’s situation was different, yet such a great result was pulled.
If Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu could pull such a result, then it is pertinent and not out of point to note there are some factors that led to that which has to do strictly with his personality.

In Imo north Okigwe Zone, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu is known for his many philanthropic activities which he has been doing for many years, not because of politics, but that is just who he is. As we are moving to the festive period, there is an anticipation filled with Jubilation among the people of Okigwe Zone because it has become a culture for Chief Emma Okewulonu to give out massively to the people of Okigwe Zone most especially the widows, the needy and the less privileged.

Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu also has a record of being one of the largest employer of Labour in the zone with his personal business. He has been able to set up small scale businesses for many youths who have become millionaire from almost nothing.

Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu may be a novice in contesting for elections, but definitely He is not a stranger to the people. Infact, classified information revealed that He was begged into contesting for the election, He is someone who just wants more development in Okigwe Zone and nothing more.
