Thursday, December 10, 2020 was another day to remember as Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, whose tenure as VC, AE-FUNAI is almost ended, when four major awards in recognition of unparalleled achievements in climate – smart revolution, community and people friendliness and sports development, were bestowed that same day.

First was Faculty of Education, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi state, which honoured him with presentation of ‘Climate – Smart Campus Award in marking the 5th (Special) Convocation Ceremony of the University coming up on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

While making the presentation, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Rosemary Igbo, who led her team to Vice- Chancellor’s Conference Room to decorate the Vice – Chancellor, stated that the ‘’CLIMATE-SMART CAMPUS AWARD’’ on the Vice-Chancellor was to appreciate him for tremendous greening and beautification of AE-FUNAI Campus alongside accelerated infrastructural and academic development of the Faculty. She iterated that VC, as an Agricultural Economist of global repute, has achieved wide-ranging tree planting in AE-FUNAI, through the Campus Green Initiative which has transformed the campus into a University in a garden.

Prof. Igbo further stated that the Campus Green Initiative has planted over 5,000 ornamental trees and fruit trees to serve as food and dietary enhancement for students, staff and the entire University community as well as protect campus edifices from vagaries of the weather. These according to her, was achieved through the hard work of our visionary Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nwajiuba with a collaboration of donations from staff, students and friends of the University.

Elated Prof. Nwajiuba appreciated Prof Rosemary Igbo and her team for remembering to honour him even as he is almost gone. He iterated that whatever achievements recorded in his tenure in whichever area came as a result of the cooperation, support and teamwork which he regarded as key elements for the high achievements. He prayed that God will bless everyone who contributed in one way or the other in the success his administration has recorded since 2016.

Next was a delegation of the market women from the immediate host Community, who presented Bibles to VC, in recognition and appreciation of his commitment to cordial host community relationship and the love he has shown the rural women and the villagers since he assumed office as VC. They prayed that God will continue to bless Prof. Nwajiuba and his family for all the good work he has done in the university and host community. Over joyed Prof. Nwajiuba in appreciation of the honour accorded him, sang and danced with the women in their native tune and step, to the admiration of other university functionaries present at the event.

Prof. Nwajiuba was also given two awards by the University Sports Unit, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in sports development in AE-FUNAI and the state, after the novelty match between AE-FUNAI and Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State, organised in his honour, Prof Nwajiuba was the striker for the AE-FUNAI side. The
