Covid 19: Lukman Mustapha debunks rumour, preaches against destructive politics

It has come to my knowledge via numerous calls from well-wishers and associates, the rumours circulating on some Kwara based social media platforms alleging me of being COVID-19 positive.

While I will naturally wave it away as one of the prices one must pay as a politically exposed personality, the pattern the deliberately orchestrated rumor has taken, with some Kwara State Government functionaries joyfully circulating it even on official government platforms, I can't, but be alarmed at the lowest ebb our politics has sunk into.

One of such government functionaries circulating the obvious falsehood is one Modupeola Joel, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, who posted the malicious rumour on "COVID-19 Kwara Platform" this morning, a platform which is supposed to coordinate the State's response to the pandemic, which draws members from top government appointees, medical personnel among others.

While I have instructed my legal representatives to take appropriate actions within the ambit of the law, I nonetheless use this opportunity to debunk the malicious rumour and reassure my numerous well wishers and associates that I am hale and hearty.

May I however use this opportunity to, for the umpteenth time advice us all, that while playing politics, we should endeavor to play it with all sense of maturity, decorum and spirit of sportsmanship, as regardless of our political divergence, we all remain brothers.

We must all remain oblivious of the fact that only God gives and takes power.

Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha
Chairman BoT, Sobi 101.9FM
Rebirth Captain.
