I'm a single dad and my 12 years old son just told me this morning that he wants diapers. I spoke to him about bed wetting and I told him he should not be ashamed about it since it's not his fault. it seems to affect his confidence when he is around friends/classmates. Please contribute If you've had similar experience with your kids/yourself.

U need to assist am...make sure say for evening make him no dey too drink water. And for night always try to wake am up 2hrs interval to go piss. With time him go come dey used to waking up by himself go piss whenever him dey press.

Truth is even if you reduce his intake of water at night time or in the evenings.. that won't stop him from bed wetting but it is effective to some extent..

The thing is there will come a time when it is going to just stop naturally.. some may say he's going to outgrow it..

Some people even bed wet to their early 30s.. it ranges but eventually it will stop..

it is something he should be worried about cuz as a kid his peers are going to use it against him and he's not going to be comfy around them making such joke.. he will not like to go to a boarding school or camping.. just talk to him and don't use it against him whenever he does something wrong

Study him at night and always help to wake him up to pee when it is about time

Please don't oblige him. It will only encourage the bedwetting and do little or nothing to stop it. Let him drink less fluids at night and set an alarm if possible to wake him up at night. His foam should be in makintosh as well to avoid smelling.

He gets enough sleep, I've reduced his liquid drinking especially in the evening but for now nothing seems to work

That is nocturnal enuresis, giving him diapers will be an enabler so don't avail him. If it still persists after applying the suggestions in some of the earlier contributions, please see a doctor to rule out underlying medical condition(s) and hopefully if not then it should be focused psychologically and behaviourally, where you can get him to see a child psychologist for professional help.

Be patient. I have sisters who had the same problem as kids and grew out of it. Parental worry did much more harm in the end.

How won't a child bedwet right from babyhood, how

Okay.

When my kids were 3 and 5, each time they want to sleep at night, I set alarm to wake me up first at exactly one hour after they sleep. Then I will wake them to pee. I will set the alarm to wake me up again at exactly two hours after. Then I wake them to pee again. I reset the alarm to wake me at exactly three hours after the second pee. I wake them again to pee and start preparing for work because it will be between 4 and 5AM by that time depending on when they sleep.

I did the above everyday for about two years, now they are 9 and 7, but stopped wetting the bed after about two years of waking them to pee at night.

So, the job is yours now. You are supposed to have done it earlier. But it’s better late than never. I know it may be difficult as some people cannot sleep immediately if they wake up in the middle of the night, unlike me who will sleep back immediately. But what has to be done has to be done

It might be worth talking to a psychologist to see if something else is the issue. FOR EXAMPLE (and I'm NOT saying this is the case with your child), late bed wetting is often a sign sexual abuse (i.e. its used as a defense mechanism). Is it possible that there is some type of trauma (that you may be unaware of) that your child has experienced that he needs help with?

No way! It will only encourage him to bedwet the more and make him not to be able to control his system to adjust to potty training or waking up intermittently to ease himself.

Let him learn the act of waking up whenever he's pressed. You the father can help by checking the time he normally bedwets, wake him up around that time and keep doing it until he's system gets used to it and he begins to get up himself to use the bathroom.

Getting a diaper will only make him more relaxed and lazy. which might not solve the problem and he'll grow older with it, by what time it Will be too late to correct and will cause a huge setback in an important aspect of his life ( relationship).

Start the potty training now. I'm sure before he turns 13, it will have been corrected.

Also take him to a children specialist doc to rule out any medical conditions.

My brother, nah so I do am for about two years. But we got the result.

My wife cannot wake up in the night because once she wakes up, she won’t be able to sleep back. But in my own family, we can sleep on the bicycle. So, it’s easy for me to sleep and wake and sleep and wake and sleep.

Life is about sacrifices, once you put in the effort consistently, you will get the result

No, u can help him to overcome it naturally, this is what you should do, take your phone and set an alarm, set alarm for 9pm in the night, set another alarm for 12am in the night, set another alarm for 3am in the night, and set another alarm for 6am



now, here is what you should do, anytime the alarm is ringing go and wake your son up and ask him to go and piss, continue doing doing this for 3 months, a time will come when u will no longer need to stress yourself to wake him up, why?... because he will get used to it and he will be waking up by himself to go and piss

Giving him diaper is like helping him and encouraging him to keep bed wetting

Follow this steps
Let him have dinner before 7pm and whatever amount of water he has taken, he will urinate half of it before bed time

Let him stop taking any liquid things from 7pm and if he must take, just a sip

Whenever he is around you and he is sleeping at night, wake him up ever 4hrs to go and wee

Monitor every liquid intakes any time from 6/7pm

it could be developmental delay, he will stop doing it naturally

Is he in boarding school?

If he wears diapers, the friends would find out the same way that they found out that ha bedwets. It may not improve his confidence but it has other advantages. The room would stop drinking and he won't have to airdry his matress.

When my daughter was 4yrs, I wore diapers for her when visiting a relative. They thought it was strange but I explained that it was better than wetting their beds. They didn't accept my reason as rational.

when you're being mocking your siblings with his or her faults of bed wetting,it sure does affects the brain,and deprecate it of the useful self-esteem

Please practice the following to assist him: let him have his dinner between 5pm or 6pm before bed time. This will enable him to urinate very well before going to bed.
Also, always try to wake him up to use the restroom every 3 hours.
Finally, he should lie sideways while sleeping.
