Dating is misunderstood by most people for honeymoon where as it is the period of familiarity between both parties. It is the foundation of every marriage and any marriage without good foundation is bound to fail. Dating period is the opportunity to know your partner better. As questions about things you think might cause issues along the line. It is better to prevent divorce by ending the relationship than hoping to manage the relationship and end up divorcing. Several points which should be discussed and agreed upon while dating your partner are enumerated below;

1. DEBT:
Who among the partners are indebted? Who will be responsible for paying it off? Which plan does the person have to pay it off so as not to affect the sweetness of the marriage?

2. LOCATION:
Where do you want to live long term? Do you prefer city life? Country life? Island life? Do you prefer lagos life where 80% lagosians are immune to rough life? How will the location affect your jobs/sources of income?

3. CHILDREN:
Does one have a kid already? What roll do they play in your child’s life. If no children, do y’all want children? How many children do you want to have?

4. RELIGION:
Are you Christian, Jewish, Muslim? Does your partner share those beliefs? If not will they be flexible and respect your beliefs? Do you just believe or do you practice?

5. SEX:
will you be able to have sex with one person for the rest of your life? Do you really love sex? Are you willing to explore in sexuality? Are you wanting an open relationship?

6. HOUSE HOLD WORK/ CAREERS:
Who will do what. STRUCTURE is so important. Will there be need for house help? Will you be doing the washings or the clothes will be taken to the laundry?

7. AC TEMPERATURES:
While some like their AC on 78 degrees, others do not. It is neccessary you understand the preferd living condition and to know if you can adjust or cope.

8. LIVING WITH RELATIVES:
Is any relative going to be living with you in your new home? Are you both ok with that? There are definitely a lot of other things that should be discussed but for now, let's digest the above points.
