We start from verse 15, a question asked,shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? certainly not. A sharp refusal to return to the vomit from which the believer through Christ was delivered from(2 Peter 2:22).

Every believer in Christ Jesus should have the same resolve towards sin having confidence in the sufficient grace of God and strength that is made manifest in our weakness(2 Corinthians 12:9).

Now, peradventure, a believer here is weighed down by a particular sin, guilt-ridden. I’d like to bring to that person’s attention the following:
(I) All sins can be forgiven except for sin leading to death, that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit(Mark 3:28).
(II) The penitent believer in Christ should confess his or her sins, the Lord Jesus is faithful and just to forgive you of your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness(1 John 1:9).

We move on to verse 16, now we know that to whom we present ourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slave whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness.

1 Peter 4:3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

The resolute believer in Christ is no longer interested in walking in the will of the gentiles, drowning in all manner of fleshly lusts as we once were at one point in time but now we gave our lives to Christ, all those things of old are now past away and behold we have been made new wherein the things that pertains to the new should be what is evident in us(2 Corinthians 5:17).

Now we live for the will of God(1 Peter 4:2).

Moving now to verse 17, we offer thanks to whom it is due, that though in our pasts we were slaves of sin, yet we have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
That is the pattern of sounds words rooted in the word of truth in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

(2) PRESENTATION OF SELF BY THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST AS A SERVANT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR HOLINESS.

We will look at three things now:
➖ THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST A BONAFIDE SERVANT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
➖ THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST BOLDLY REJECTS SERVITUDE TO UNCLEANNESS AND LAWLESSNESS.
➖ THE BELIEVER’S FREEDOM FROM RIGHTEOUSNESS IN THE PAST SINFUL LIFE.

➖ THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST A BONAFIDE SERVANT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

But. We have been set free and are now bonafide servants of righteousness, no longer in the shackles of sin.

➖ THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST BOLDLY REJECTS SERVITUDE TO UNCLEANNESS AND LAWLESSNESS.

Now just as in our old life, we presented our members as slaves of uncleanness and of lawlessness which will led to more lawlessness, we are now to present our members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

Let us walk properly, as of the day as children of light, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But rather we put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Make no provision, that is to relate with that bad friend, or to have that certain thing or whatsoever that create an enablement to fulfill the fleshly lusts.

➖ THE BELIEVER’S FREEDOM FROM RIGHTEOUSNESS IN THE PAST SINFUL LIFE.

Romans 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

This was the state of our good works in our past sinful lives, yes this is it.
This includes those good works that concern giving to the poor and hungry, donating to charities and orphanages and other so called good endeavors according to the standards of the world but to God the justifier, Isaiah 64:6, gives us an idea into the view of how God saw those works.

(3) THE SERVANT OF GOD THROUGH CHRIST HAS FRUIT TO HOLINESS, AND AT THE END EVERLASTING LIFE.

If we were to take a moment, a pause to reflect on our past when we were in the bondage of sin.
What fruits did you have then in the things you are now ashamed of?
For the end of those things is death.

Now the case is difference to, having been set free from sin, and having become servants of the God the MOST HIGH, you have your fruit to holiness, and st the end, everlasting life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We move on to verse 23 a popular verse, the wages of sin is death and the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
This is part of the portion for the believer in Christ, so keep on believing knowing this by the grace of God.

1. Keep on believing in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2. Make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts.
3. Love one another.
4. Abstain from all appearance of evil.
5. Hold fast what is good.
6. Acknowledge God in all your ways.
7. Give thanks to God through Christ Jesus for this is His will for us.
8. Pray without ceasing.
9. Read your Bible daily.
10. Rejoice always.
11. Be patient and keep the faith, for it is through faith and patience in Christ that we might inherit the promises from God.
12. Grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

OBEY THE COMMANDMENTS OF OUR LORD!
I) Love your the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and with all your mind.
II) Love your neighbour as yourself(A command directly from our Lord Jesus Christ to you).

Let your light so shine before men, that when they see your good works, they will glorify your Father in Heaven.

Our Lord Jesus is coming, His coming is as a thief in the night, as we also await the trumpet sound.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 - 18
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

EXHORTATION(S):
Rejoice always
