The name of the Lord is a strong (fortified) tower: the righteous run into it, and are safe (Proverb 18: 10, emphasis added).

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10: 13).

While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape (1 Thessalonians 5: 3).

Watch you therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man (Luke 21:36, emphasis added).

There is an increasing wave of violence in the world today. The newspapers and other media organizations churn out bad news everyday from all parts of the globe. News of rape, war, kidnapping, murders, riots, earthquake, tsunami, fire, flood, etc, abound every day. The recent tsunami in Japan claimed over 10,000 lives. Their food and water are reported to be contaminated from radiation due to their destroyed nuclear reactors. More than 10, 000 people have died since the Libya uprising. In Jos, Nigeria, several lives have been lost due to the religious crisis engulfing that once- serene city. As a matter of fact, God is shaking the nations of the earth. All these events have been prophesied long ago by the Lord Jesus Christ. These events will increase in intensity because they have been foretold and the world has been forewarned. What, then, must we do to escape all the forthcoming calamities? We must run to safety. We must run for cover.

There is no other place to run to, nay, there is no other safe haven but the name of the Lord. The name Jesus means ‘Savior’. He is only One sent to the earth with the sole purpose of saving humanity. No other man can accomplish that task. There is no other name given among men under heaven whereby we must be saved (Act 4:12). In the day of destruction, your money and wealth or technology know-how cannot save you. Japan is a clear example. Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the day of the second coming of the Lord. They ate and drank, they married and were given in marriage until the flood came and destroyed the whole earth. Nothing is new under heaven. The same events that occurred in the days of Noah are prevalent today – eating and drinking, large scale marriages, merriment and enjoyment. But know of a surety that as the flood destroyed the world in the days of Noah, this present world will be destroyed by fire (2 Peter 3: 10-11). The last Scriptures above tell us what we must do to escape all the things that shall come to pass. We must watch and pray always. What are we to watch for? – We are to watch out for the second coming of the Lord. We must pray for God’s kingdom to come; for only His kingdom can bring peace and tranquility into this world. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. The whole world needs peace desperately. He alone can give you peace. The United Nations cannot. No other man can give you peace. Jesus brought the kingdom of heaven to earth. But have you received that kingdom? Have you received the King in your heart? If not, don’t delay. Do not procrastinate for another minute; for today is the acceptable time, today is the day of salvation. Run to safety. Will you be safe and saved from the coming judgment, tribulation and catastrophe? Will you enter heaven? If so, pray this prayer aloud: Lord Jesus, come into my heart, wash away my sins. I confess you as my Lord and Savior, in Jesus’ Precious Name. Amen.
