Connections or not. The oil and gas agencies in Nigeria gives more priories to Engineering candidates in every recruitment.
This has been their trends, you can as well ask around but that is the bitter truth.

Leave him, in every trend there is always someone an ITK that doesn’t actually know anything pumping himself up with unrealistic false hopes.

No need to waste words, time reveals all things.

This is so true.

Even for Non-technical roles.

I personally know of someone who is an engineer but works as an HR Analyst in an oil company (entry level).

That may not obtain in government agencies, but they also give preference to engineers. I think it's because engineers are very versatile and most can adapt to almost any role.

I think is because the oil and gas industry is Engineering based industry plus most engineers do PGD in Management these days and that's why they are also taking up management roles in the industry these days.

This is different from what he said. Read his comment again. He said those who did Social Science courses should unfollow the trend, they dont have any chance because anyone could be trained to do their jobs. I know many illiterate mechanics who are better in practical than graduate of mechanical engineering.
What business does he have with others? if he studied Social Science course as he claimed, let him unfollow quietly after all we didn't apply together. Make he carry him hard feelings go sitdan

Yes, you're right.

Do they train mechanical Engineering students in school to be mechanics??...
Be guided please...

By the way, we are all applicants here, I think it's wrong to advise some group of people to unfollow the thread simply because they belong to a particular discipline...Provided you're eligible for what you applied for just wait till the last day...

You just exposed your Ignorance, comparing a mechanic with a mechanical engineer. People like you will also compare a brick layer with a civil engineer.
You need to google the difference between an Engineer, a Technician and an Artisan.

I can see that you are still lamenting like i killed a family member grin grin

If was an expression to tell what is going to happen, because everyone on this trend deserves the truth. But the truth people doesn’t sit well with people like you. You for just close your eyes to my post but you have chosen to lament.

Oga lament away, the matter reach for lamentation grin

*****************************************

I know good people of this trend with good brains got the point.

There are many Engineering students working in banks and Big 4s with their Bsc* cause they couldn’t find engr jobs, Stats show most of them do better in these roles than social science students so big 4s and major banks now accept them gladly. But how many social science students with their Bsc* have landed engineering jobs? Zero. One can interchange both ways between business and science and one can only go one way.

That aside, Nigerian Government agencies are not really concerned about brain power but connection power. So if there are too many Engr with madt connections, merit disappears. If there are no more Engr/Chemist/Biologist/Physicist roles in this scenario, the remaining people with connections fight for social science roles thus it becames a clash of the titans free for all.

It is bias no doubt. However things are as they are, suffering comes from imagining them to be different.

I don’t even know why i took the pain to explain this, wahala for ITK wey no sabi understand simple english grin

I think you’re taking it farther than he meant. Not everything he said suits me, but I understand he was trying to emphasise the Nigerian factor in job processes. Saying you should “unfollow this thread” was not a serious advice. He was just emphasising the realities in our society today. Tagging it “wrong” may not be fair to him as it demonises him. I’m sure he wasn’t malicious in his post. He even added an “lol” to show that the advice was an attempt on sarcasm. Now if you believe none of these things apply to you (like I do by faith), then don’t let it bother you.

Exactly!
My advice is that we should all chill awaiting the long awaiting positive development, however let's hope on God for this.
Thanks

Mail will soon drop but the thing changed as far those people that were invited to upload decument ,no be say merit no de but very small as it had been corned by high profile people in the country ,people with leg and connection get upper hand before man and God, prayer is highly needed . This issue has been caused by IT people responsible for sending mail to people in which they send mail to people through back door and NCDMB mgt got to know therefore many things changed as even people from first exam were shortlisted this time. Success

Welcome back Scheme! Your use of English exposed you, lol. Meanwhile, you've only been speculating since beginning of this recruitment. You don't sound like you've any genuine info from the recruiting organisation.
