To prevent Nigeria military from seizing power again, on June 1999 President Olusegun Obasanjo retired over one hundred military and police officers. The sacked officers are those who held political offices since 1985, the year General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida who was the then Nigeria military Head of State took over power from Major General Muhammadu Buhari till May 1999 during the regime of General Abdulsalam Alhaji Abubakar. The sacked or retired military and police officers who were previously: former Military Governor in Nigeria, former ministers, and Chairmen Board of Governors.

The military and police officers retired by Olusegun Obasanjo are :

(1) Maj. Gen. Patrick Aziza.
(2) Maj. Gen. Bashir Salihi Magashi.
(3) Maj. Gen. S. O. G. Ango
(4) Brigadier Yakubu Mua'zu.
(5) Brigadier Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
(6) AIG Simeon Olasunkanmi Odunoye.
(7) Navy Captain Rasheed Adisa Raji.

It was actually a good idea from Obasanjo. Retiring those over ambitious soldiers, so as not to plot another coup

It was one of the brilliant move to save guide our naseat democracy as at then , otherwise those coup mongers would have strike without thinking twice.
That is why when I hear Burutai talking abt piloting coup now, I laugh cos I know he is deceiving Buhari, who has prove time without number that he get confuse per second.
