It's only the US government that can tell their citizens to do such because they are dead sure to intervene in their rescue and send all those kidnappers to meet with their creator for judgement. Even Nigerian governments itself pays ransom to kidnappers.

Any other government in Nigeria and maybe the Chinese government too (they too failed to do anything about their citizens kidnapped in Ekiti state) that gives such advice, please ignore it.

That's where the problem lies. These kidnappers kill the abducted once ransom isn't paid. It's hard to watch a loved one abducted and you know he can't be saved by the security of the Government.

But emotionally, it is not easy for the kidnapped & the family who rightly want to see their loved ones set free as soon as possible, without harm.

That said, the government (at all levels) need to do more in securing lives & ensuring that such criminals are punished for their crimes.

When a criminal knows that he/she will be eventually caught & made to pay severely for the crime, that would be a bigger 'incentive' to stop criminality at all levels, not just kidnappings... Like the saying goes, no rest for the wicked...

When they can't even enjoy their loot & are always on the run, they will be forced to at least tone down their activities or abandon it for less risky ventures... But even then, they should be hunted down like dogs & made to pay in full for their crimes...

In 2016 containers full of AK 47 were intercepted by Customs. The shipments were allegedly from Turkey. The guns were concealed in security doors, and the contents were declared as security doors. That particular issue was swept under the carpet.

Imagine Ode ...what do you mean by stop paying ransom?? Are you high on cheap drugs SSG? Even federal government is paying ransom, not to talk of individuals. Do you have any single security in this country? When you put adequate security Intel in your state, then you can advise on this.

If you want them to stop paying ransom then provide security for them and stop kidnapping because there's no one whose relative will be kidnapped that will not do everything possible to get them released
