They don’t add oil either. The attached fruit is about the only thing different between ours and theirs. I guess it is also responsible for the colour.
OK...would try making this soup sometime.

What an effrontery?

Then what you cooked is far from being called Nsala.

Nonsense.

Kindly post pictures of the one that you cooked. Lets teach this OP a big lesson undecided

Nah. Catfish is the original, ideal and perfect obstruction, not chicken.

You can try cooking this nsala soup with Chicken (old layer precisely) and believe me, you will also love it even more. I've tried it, it's very nice.

Pic 1: Pounded yam, you can use a food processor for this.
Pic 2: How I roasted my ehuru, works for me
Pic 3: Local spices pounded together
Pic 4: Sliced leaves. You need just small, it shouldn’t overwhelm the soup

The man who marries you would be very lucky indeed

You would have such an awesome close knit family full of love

Well done

Ofe nsala is very easy to cook and onitsha native soup with nri òka.

The main and most important ingredient is fresh fish. The rest were added by no riverine area as getting fresh fish( cat fish) was hard then.
Nowadays we use pounded yam.
If you go to onitsha ocassions, it's always with corn flour.

Well done poco.

Wish other tribes will promote their foods too. We want to learn.

Oh la la. tongue

Simply delicious....

Let's input the history of Ofe Nsala (White Soup)

Ofe Nsala (Nsala Soup) is a delicious soup, popular in the eastern part of Nigeria. It is also known as ‘‘white soup” because of its light color, due to the absence of palm oil.

The authentic Nsala soup recipe calls for fresh whole Cat Fish, which gives this soup its unique taste. But in the absence of whole catfish, catfish fillets or conger eel can be used.

Ofe Nsala is also similar to Afia Efere, which is the Efik-style white soup, but the extra condiments added to Afia Efere is what differentiates it from Nsala.

Goat meat Afia Efere was my favorite during my stay in Uyo, AKS, followed by Ataama ie Baanga soup. Fisherman's soup is another good one.

Welldone Pocohantas, I'm impressed. If you keep impressing me like this, I'll have no option than to see you as a rival.

But it doesn't make any sense that they eat this soup with pounded yam. Isn't it the same as having carb with carb? Like eating bread with rice?

No nah. I'm not here for the violence ooh. I'm here for the drama, the drama. Note the difference grin

Since they will not let ogiri rest for them, let's start making it optional in every Igbo soup we make. Before long, the trend will catch on.
