The acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Haliru Mohammed, yesterday dismissed claims that there will be run-off after the April 9 presidential election, saying President Goodluck Jonathan, the candidate of the party, will have a landslide victory.

Mr Muhammed, in a meeting with journalists in Abuja, said none of the other presidential candidates has the political stature and spread to win the election.

He stated that having gone round the country to campaign, the PDP will secure majority of the votes that will be cast by Nigerians.

"We have gone round this country. We have campaigned. We have interacted with people and from all indications, our candidate is very well accepted by majority of Nigerians," he said.

"Therefore, there is no doubt in my mind that President Jonathan will win with plurality of votes; that is the majority of votes cast will be for PDP. And then he will get the required 25 per cent in two-third of the states and FCT.

Downplaying the chances of other candidates, especially Muhammdu Buhari, Ibrahim Shekarau and Nuhu Ribadu, the PDP leader said most of them are non-starters in the race.

"The three opposition candidates are struggling to go round the zones; we have gone to all the zones; we have candidates for all the elective offices; they don't have the spread but what they have is propaganda to create doubts," he said.

"The PDP is fully prepared and is convinced from antecedents from 1999 that PDP is the only party that is accepted by Nigerians from the North to the South. The only little victory the opposition has won, was through the courts but if the people reject you and you go to court, what type of victory is that?"
