IN order to demonstrate the readiness of the Police to ensure free and fair elections in April, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Hafiz Ringim, yesterday announced the posting of all state commissioners of police (CPs) to new states for the elections which commence tomorrow just as the Police authorities deny allegation of plans to use the police boss to rig the elections.

I have checked properly but cannot find Marvel Akpoyibo former Lagos CP
Was he removed before or he has been dropped in this new reshuffle?

If it is the latter, then there is a gang up somewhere.

Also, why was the corrupt ADISA BOLANTA moved from Oyo state to delta of all places? Why not to Yobe or Jigawa?
That man should be hanged!

police is the most corrupt outfit in nigeria. moving them around is just like moving a group of corrupt people around. what have u achieved? As they leave, each person drops a secret handover note to the in-comer on the strategies of how to milk and eat large in the newly posted region/state. shunn!! those things, we are aware. if u no know, u no go know. who is even deceiving who?
Re: Ig Moves All Police Commissioners Around The States by Kilode1: 2:22pm On Apr 01, 2011
This does not prove anything. The results will determine their effectiveness and fairness.

There is no evidence that these new ones have not been coached or bribed by the opposition, they were appointed by the FG and still owe the FG their jobs, the FG=PDP.

Until we remove or reduce the power and influence of the FG and the executive on our public law enforcement arm, we cannot even begin to have a fair police service.

This is a Nollywood film trick, it proves nothing.

Step in the right direction to a free and fair election. The structures put in place to aid rigger's by the cp's in their current command areas are somewhat jeopardized. Recall policemen posted to new check points are apt to carry out their duties more meticulously than the old compromised ones.
Re: Ig Moves All Police Commissioners Around The States by ideylaff: 3:34pm On Apr 01, 2011
This just simply showS that the CP's are influential/have always bn and that they also can be compromised but what about the egunje boys on ground. DSP, DPO, Constables, Seargents and co,  Hmmm mm shocked God help us
Re: Ig Moves All Police Commissioners Around The States by oweniwe(m): 3:37pm On Apr 01, 2011
@ Lekyar: abi o. I wonder why most nigerians always condemn every move by the fed govt to ensure free and fair election. If the CP's are left at their respective states and some rigging aided by a security agency takes place, nigerians will blame the police and say "dem put de police there to rig the election".
Now the CP's have been transfered and people are still complaining. E don do o jare. Leave the police alone.

we have to give credit where it is due . This is a very good move in theory . It is a well known fact , thanks to many accounts from 'knowledgeable whistleblowers, that Nigerian Governors buy off Police commissioners to ensure they have the police in their pocket throughout the elections. With this move it will be difficult for Governors to 'regroup'  enough , within such a short period , to compromise the new commisioner. Of course this is Nigeria and many , especially the police , can be bought in seconds but this is a good move nonetheless because it is at least a sensible effort.

Man, abeg silence! Don't you know how the police work? Before an officer, whether he's a CP or a DPO can be transfered, requires logistics and allowances that have to be put in place? Mass reshuffling like the one you're advocating will only cause more problems for the Police Force. Moreover, the CP's can discipline any officer found wanting. So its ok if only the CPs are moved

Not certain what this will really mean in a situation where INEC is in charge of the polls but I remember the police involvement in the Ekiti debacle, and if this will help then fine.

I don't see this as a way to get a free and fair election, if it is a means to curb violence, i will still give a little support. But trust nigerian police now, really value their pocket more than their integrity.
Re: Ig Moves All Police Commissioners Around The States by Lenny9000(m): 5:24pm On Apr 01, 2011
Please lets give credit when it's due, we should complain about every single thing! This is a right move, at least they are trying to show us they are doing their best. I am for BB! yet I praise Jonathan's speech urging people not to rig for him that it is not a do a die affair and no blood should be shared on his account.
Re: Ig Moves All Police Commissioners Around The States by wiseman2011(m): 5:45pm On Apr 01, 2011
The ig's posting is a wellcome development, it will suely work out perfectly in the sense that d cps are not 2 be at polling station,d official at polling station are d ranks and file who are used 2 that particular enviroment. So it will be ok.

Re: Ig Moves All Police Commissioners Around The States by YOMZE(m): 5:53pm On Apr 01, 2011
what can prevent rigging nd corruption in d electn is if INEC changes each Resident Electoral Commissioner in each 36 states of 9ja jst as d Nigerian Police Force did to their men.

You Guys are so Myopic, Now who gonna Refund The Money that the badt guys have paid to their CPs before this reshuffle grin, It is only few who are Ready to pay again if they have paid b4 and this might bring problem among Governors and CPs by then fowl nyash don blow open, now this is a good move. Resuffling in any parastatal and organisation is a welcome development cos it cut off alot of bonded corrupt practices
