The fact is because of the low levels of official taxation in this country, copuled with corruption and a resource dependent economy, the government does not have the money to pay for steady light and water.

As such the people of Nigeria have to provide for such out of their pockets. Same for the companies of Nigeria

If we were paying sufficient tax, we won't have to be for example spending millions on boreholes for water. Government would pay for that.

But we don't want to pay taxes plus we thinkthat the income from oil is enough for us all. So we end up spending millions anyway to provide the stuff that government should but can't becauae limited resources. Corruption complicates the matter.

We have a tax to gdp ratio of 5.8 percent. Our refusal to face the fact.that low taxes means low revenues means poor government services is what ia forcing us to pay to.buy stuff government should have provided


Even in the private sector too. 40-60% of Nigerians don't pay their light bills. Government too makes matterworse by forcing the sale of power at a loss.Discos cant give us light as a result. But we need light so we have to pay for gnenerators out of pocket.

Nigeria has 36states apart from Abuja. Can u pls tell me in how many states did we have serious endsars protests? In Lagos that was d epicenter of d protests, how many people protested? Lagos has a population of 14m people. Let's compare that with d city of Seoul in South Korea. Seoul has a population of 9.7m people. Pls find attached a picture of protesters in Seoul protesting for d resignation of their president in 2016 because of one small corruption scandal. Pls remember that south Koreans have a better standard of living & have less reason to protest. From d pic, did u have this type of crowd in Lagos? Endsars protests didn't last up to two weeks. This South Korean protest spanned 5months.

Can u compare d number of people that came out for endsars protests with d number of people that come out for PDP/APC political campaign? Which is usually larger? Doesn't that tell u something?

This has been more profound with this administration because anytime it fails, it looks for who to blame. If it's not Jonathan, it's PDP. Buharis govt never takes responsibility. It has failed in every area including security. Instead of taking responsibility, it now says it is NIN that will solve all our security challenges just d way it said BVN will stop kidnapping, 419 and corruption. Yet nothing to show.

My point is that this, NIN is avenue by which this govt is oppressing nigerians and depriving them of their rights. D govt threat to punish nigerians by disconnecting phone lines because of NIN, tramples on d rights of nigerians. But how many nigerians know this or even care? Instead of nigerians resisting it, they are suggesting better ways govt should open more registration centres so they can register so that their phone lines won't be disconnected. And then u say "this is not true". What exactly is not true?

Because Nigerians don't pay enough cash for government to provide those things, and Nigerians don't hold their governments to account at all.

Meanwhile, light, water and so on have to be provided for, so we make private arrangements to pay for them.

Take power. It costs N53 to produce one kilowatt of power. Under the arrangement DISCOS were forced to aqbide by, until recently we were paying N30 for that Kilowatt of power.

Naturally, the power supply ain't sufficent as a result.

So, we have to pay for generators and such to make up the difference

And before that, when power was under government rule...same issue.

Let's not forget that a large percentage of people don't pay for power either....

The payment for generators is the tax referred to in the boolded. It doesn't go to government.

And before you strart...this is not an excuse for government corruption, fopr APC failure or for Buhari or for PDP . This is the fact of the matter.

Here in my street we provide our own security by employing vigilantee and pay them at end of the month.

Try removing police and see the kind of mayhem that will emerge. The effect on Lagos from the endsars protest is an example. By and large, govt is providing you with security, questions is that is it adequate? Every nation has security challenges, be it US, UK or UAE.
