Sorry for the experience bro.

I used the same model in the past (7 years ago), and after about 18 months of steady spending on the vehicle, I even have phobia for Nissan as a whole. Issue after issue!

Bought a new engine, a new gear box, changed virtually all the sensors at various times, bought brain box about 3 times. . .
Despite all these, the car problem no dey finish.

What broke the camel's back was when the new engine knocked, I just sold it off for 270k.

It was a Nissan Murano 2005 SUV. I bought the car for 700k.

The fan belt cut thrice on its journey. Estimated journey of 6 hours took 12 hours.

When it arrived, I took it to a mechanic to change all the fan belts. It was done.

After that, I noticed the throttle could not accelerate the car. The car drags slowly and cannot climb the culvert in front of my house.

I started looking for a Nissan specialist. There was none in my state. I settled for a mechanic that had high recommendation from colleagues and friends. We changed the fuel pump, the air flow meter, the spark plugs, installed a new alternator, and and a new Korean battery 75amp.

The thruttle wasn't still working. You'd have to press the thruttle to the floor of the car before the car will start rolling.

We scanned the car and it threw up several codes.

I made enquiries and hired a mechanic from Osogbo coz they said he's good. He made estimate of things to change and took 120k to get to work.

I experienced this also.

What caused it was a blocked exhaust. The catalyst body was burned out and the burned deposits blocked the exhaust.

Lmao. I even forgot to add that the battery died two days after I took delivery of the car. Like, dead dead. Ignition won't come on.

I really suffered man.

Oga you are partly to be blamed for what happened to you. Why would you purchase a used Nissan Murano without conducting due diligence. You didn't go with a professional to scan & inspect the car.
In my city, I see Muranos on the road being driven by women without complaints. Someone in my estate has been using a 2004/2005 Murano as his daily driver since 2014 & I haven't seen him pushing/towing it.
You bought a badly abused Murano. The previous owner really abused it before selling it to you with the help of an insincere dealer. An abused Toyota Camry can also frustrate you.
In as much as we have people with negative reviews on Nissan Murano, we also have people who would say Nissan Murano is the best car they have ever owned.

A bad car is a bad car. No matter how unreliable a car is their will still be few people who will argue it is the best thing that happened to them but those will be in the minority. So the fact that some people enjoy their murano doesn't make it a good ride. Even the good rides with glowing reviews have lemons amongst them. I just laugh when I read comments condemning people who buy toyotas but the fact is that one has a higher chance of enjoying your ride when it's a Toyota or any other proven reliable brand. If you get a murano or land rover freelander because you want to be different, you will be different it just won't be the way you want it.

I bought a Nissan Murano SUV in December 2020 from a dealer in nairaland, and despite the advice of some mechanics I consulted, I foolishly went with the opinion of the dealer that those mechanics have outdated knowledge and they're dissuading me from buying a cheap SUV I'll enjoy. That once I stick to using NS2 CVT gear oil, and do regular maintenance, I won't have any problems with the car.

So I paid for the car and paid a driver to drive it down to my state for me.

Let's blame Nissan and deflect focus away from the dealer who hoodwinked you into buying an abused car with clean pictures and a cheap price without any form of inspection.

Sorry for the bad experience.

It's a common problem with Murano. You shouldn't have bought it since you don't know about Nissan and you also don't have a mechanic that understand the car.

The car have problem with a sensor (Airflow meter) or it could be the exhaust that is blocked. The funny part is you hardly fine new sensors and the old one you buy might also be faulty. You have to keep changing it till you get a good one.

I use a Murano and Nissan Altima. I will tell you to Never use a mechanic that specializes in toyata or honda. You will keep spending money and even spoil the car more.

Nissan is a very strong car and I've been using mine for almost 10 years now. It was really rough at first but with time I got people who understands them

I agree with you and I take the whole blame for it. I gave an unearned trust to a seller.

I wasn't even angry about this whole shit until yesterday night when GTBank debited me for a 200k Quick Credit loan I took on December 28th 2020 to fund the mechanic I hired from Osogbo coz I had run out of money in my spending account.

The lesson here for me is that I must never take the word of any car seller for it. 99% of them are not truthful.

Go with a competent mechanic and physically inspect any car you want to buy.

Of course this is not a guarantee that they won't sell lemon to you if they want to (especially for a Naija Used car) but it helps a lot.

lool. an abused toyota camry and honda accord will also show you. nissan murano is a strong car. buy direct tokunbo. the only known issue is the cvt generally but regular changing of fluids and filter will solve it. i have bought tokunbo cars and to just get them up to my taste has cost me close 500k and i am talking toyota camry and i buy the parts and give them to fix. if that same car was 9ja used, it would cost me more. there is nothing like a cheap car. guys who maintain their 9ja used cars well will not sell it so cheap. if its cheap, its problematic. so its on you and the dealer. leave the murano. i know someone who used it in amuwo odofin with terrible bad roads for 5 yeara no issues. even your so called toyota camry, have you heard of oil shorting and transmission solenoid issues that require changing the entire transmission? toyotas are not more reliable. they just take more abuse b4 they finally die.

A bad car is a bad car chief.

One good review out of a thousand unpleasant reviews is not significant.

We don't have enough knowledgeable and specialist mechanics in Nigeria to indulge in cars like Nissan Murano; unless of course you're not earning peanuts like me then you can buy your Benz and your Muranos. Middle class workers should never try it unless they want to shit on their hustle.

A car I exhausted all mechanic recommendations in my state and no one could fix it.

A car I needed to bring in two separate mechanics from two neighboring States based on strong recommendations; house and feed them for days and they both could not fix it.

A car almost every mechanic I finally hawked it to help me sell flatly refused to even take it and sample it in their workshop because people will not price it.

Of what use is a car to me if it has a zero resale value? Even a thoroughly abused Camry Pencil Light can't be sold for 175k. Not even an abused Golf 3 will go for that amount.

How many Nissan Murano do you see on the roads when you step out every day, compared to Toyota?

Of what rubbish use is a car to me in this useless Buhari economy if I can't push it to the nearest mechanic and get it running on the road in hours?

How much do I make in a year to be hiring specialist mechanics?

Thanks but I'll stick to Toyota next time and I advise every middle class earner to do same. I won't even advice my worst enemy to buy a Nissan Murano; even as Tokumbo. It's a rubbish car.

you bought a bad ride that should not have been bought. its that simple. i have seen toyota camry that will set you back a million naira minimum just to get it back in shape cuz the engine and trans has been throughly abused. stick to toyota. but if you buy a second hand abused toyota, that transmission and engine oil has not been changed regularly, bover heating has led to fake gasket installed and thermostat removed, water is used in the radiator and fan has been installed directly to the battery, throttle body disconnected snd a manual cable dropped inside. you might want to check why there are many used 2007 to 2009 9ja used camry up for sale. i have friends who offloaded them once their issues started. cuz they are expensive to fix and most times your mechanics still do not really know to fix them. a car like the one above will set you at least 1.5m to out back into optimum shape. Buy one and come back here with the same sub story. Ppl run away from audi but i drive one and it has been more reliable than my tokunbo toyota camry 2005 that I sold and my acura mdx that i still own. toyota reliability is only as good as your maintenance. if you like buy a car for 700k again irrespectivve of the car. if you do not take anything away, their is no good cheap car anywhere. if its "cheap" its cheap for a reason. do not get me started on 4runners that come with gasket issues from factory that requires you to cough out 1.1m just to replace the engine minus labor. let god not punish you the catalyst is stolen , thats 250k. or is the abs unit that regularly fails? solid 150k. any car you buy is maintenance simple. buy a good one and make sure you have enough money for parts as we mostly buy tokunbo cars when a lot of things are getting due to change at the same time. average joes should stick to 1990 cars. no modern car 2003 and above is cheap to maintain.

That is your beloved toyota camry 2007 to 2009. From above 100k miles, bad engine and transmission. Check the reviews 2005 murano few reported engine and transmission failures and those with engine failures i am sure did not follow the oil change interval. A solid 4.5 against camry 4.2. Go figure.

After three days of living in my house and working on the car, he couldn't fix it.

I asked mechanics to put it up for sale but no mechanic would take it from me to put it up for sale. They said no one will buy it. It will occupy unnecessary space in their workshop because the popular belief is that Nissan Murano is not a good SUV.

I contacted the dealer I bought the car from and he assured me that it wasn't a problem, that maybe those mechanics don't have knowledge of Nissan Murano. We both shared the belief that the first mechanic who repaired the cut fan belts and changed the engine oil (Mobil 1) and gear oil for me with NS2 CVT gear oil I bought myself must have tampered with the car unnecessarily and couldn't put it back in shape after.

After three weeks of exhausting all the mechanics and rewire guys in my state and nearby states, and pouring over 200k extra into the car hoping it would work, I sold the car as scrap.

Your mistake was doing more than you should have.

Next time, let the seller change engine oil before the journey and then never change gear oil immediately after buying a car even if it's the original recommended gear oil.

This is just the honest fact. Sheikhgeorge is just talking persuasively, exactly like the seller that sold the rubbish to me lmao.

Man gave me stories of Audi he used that has lasted more than a Toyota he bought, stories of his neighbor that has been using a Murano for 50 years, etc. I fell for his convincing stories against the advice of every mechanic and friend I talked to about the Murano before I bought it. This car set me back by more than a million.

Every car has issues, from Corolla to Camry to Golf; but sticking to reliable, popular and trusted brands, especially if you don't make millions in a year is how to play safe. Buy the popular cars you see on the roads abeg.

I hope those of them who sell lemon to people without telling them the whole truth so as to rip them off get what they deserve while they're still alive.
