Episode: 6&7

Tara was shocked, they have never quarreled like this before. Did Mimi just slapped her because if a guy? This is serious! Is Richard worth this? That guy isn't sincere, he will just use her friend and dump her; she won't allow that! She had to open her eyes before it becomes late.

"Mirabel, did you just slap me because of Richard?"

"Yes, and I'll do it again and again if you dare bad mouth him again. I love that guy and you'll have to respect that. I've always respected your boyfriends, why can't you treat mine the same way I treated yours?"

"The fact is, that guy is not your boyfriend. What do you know about him apart from the fact that he's rich? What else? Have you ever visited him in his house? Or rather, has he ever invited you to his house? I can't believe you could fall sheepishly in love with someone who doesn't give a Bleep about you!"

"Shut up Tamara! Shut up!!!!" Mimi barked at her.

"Truth, they say is bitter, but it has to be told." Tara said as she left the house forgetting her pot of stew. Mimi sank on the chair and wept.

Tara left the house devastated, she wondered what has come over Mimi, why she was acting that way since she met Richard. She wandered in school campus and sat down under the mango tree she usually sit with Mimi each time they want to read. She was deep in thought that she didn't notice Ruth, her friend and course mate walked up to her.

"Tara," Ruth called.

"Hi Ruth," she said. "What's up?"

"I'm supposed to be asking you that. You look sad and deep in thought. What's up with you?" She asked sitting beside her.

Ruth used to be her close friend before she met Mimi, she began to distance herself from her but the girl never gave up on their friendship. She made sure to advice her each time she falls out with Mimi.

"Nothing Ruth, am fine," she lied not wanting to bore Ruth with her problems with Mimi.

"You and I know that you are not fine, come on, am your friend; you can talk to me. Is it about Mimi?" Tara nodded. "What happened?"

"We had a fight this morning, she slapped me. Can you believe that? She slapped me because of a guy." She lamented.

"A guy?? You mean the quarrel was about a guy?"

"Yes, a guy she claimed to love "

"What?! Mimi is in love? I don suffer!"

"I was amazed."

"Alright, tell me what happened."

Tara narrated everything to her. Ruth kept quiet and listened. When she was through, she concluded by saying she was leaving the house first thing tomorrow morning.

"It hasn't gotten to that now!" Said Ruth.

"I know but I feel so bad that a guy is trying to destroy the friendship we've build for years."

Ruth did her best, she advised her not to turn her back on Mimi now because she needs her. "She needs you now, no matter how much you hate guys now; you have to be nice to her guy friends. Remember how she treated your ex's. She was nice to them. Even when she was not in support of you dating Zubby, she was never rude to him. Tara agreed with her and decided to return home.

By the time she got home, Mimi was calm. She had spoken to Richard to apologize on Tara's behalf but was surprised to know that he wasn't mad at Tara. He even blamed her for fighting with Tara.

" You know how she feels about guys." He had said. "You of all people should understand her better, instead of fighting with her, you should have sympathized with her, she's been through a lot."

Mom felt bad after discussing with Richard, she felt bad for slapping her best friend, she felt sorry for the wrong words she used on her. She couldn't wait to apologize to her, she brought out her phone and dialed her number. Unfortunately, she left her phone at home.

"Where are you Tara! Please forgive me." She said.

"I'm sorry," Mimi said as soon as Tara got in. "I didn't mean to slap or say those words to you."

"I'm sorry too," Tara apologized. "It was my fault, I shouldn't have disrespected your guest. Do you mind giving his number? I want to personally apologize to him."

"Of course, why not," exclaimed Mimi happy. "Use my phone." She gave her her phone and she dialed the number.

Episode 7

"You have to make it up to me by having dinner with me tonight." Richard said on the other end.

"Okay, fine. I'll only come if Mimi will come with us."

"Am sure she will, just inform her."

"Okay," she said and hung up.

"Sorry girl, I won't be able to make it tonight. I have an assignment to do." Mimi said when she was informed.

"Which assignment is that one?"

"The one of last week, I haven't done it and Mr. Okeke is threatening me." Mimi replied.

"Why didn't you tell me about it?" Tara asked disappointed.

"Don't worry, just go and keep my boyfriend company tonight. I trust you."

"Are you sure about that?"

"I have never been so sure in my life, you can use the opportunity to check him out for me." she replied smiling. "But make sure you give me the full details, okay? Don't cancel anything from me. I trust your judgement Tara." She held her hand. "This is the first time am falling in love. Please help me."

"Sure," she replied as she called Richard to inform him. She wasn't comfortable going out with him alone, she still believe he has no feelings for her friend. Well, maybe this is an opportunity to know what is really going on between him and her best friend. So, she got ready for the dinner.

Richard was dressing up in his room humming unconsciously, he looked so happy, he was glad to be going on a date with her alone. All thanks to Mimi for refusing, she's such an angel for refusing to go with them. Seemed like she read his mind, he will thank her later for it.

"I can see someone is happy tonight," a voice said behind him. He was startled and turned. It was Cynthia. He had forgotten she was in his apartment.

"Oh Cynthia, is you!" He said. " you startled me.

"Sorry, so where are we going?" She asked smiling.

"We? No girl, am going alone."

"Why don't you take me with you? It's boring here without you." She pleaded.

"Why not hang out with your friends?" He suggested as he brought some money out from his drawer. "Take this, you can go shopping with your friends or something."

"Is you I want, not this damn money." She screamed at him as she threw the money away. "Why are you treating me like this? Why? Is there a new catch? Are you going on a date with someone else?"

He ignored her and walked out, time is not his friend anymore. He would have sat Cynthia down and explain to her that his new catch is not just any girl but a girl he would love to spend the rest of his life with. He will still talk to her. He thought as he picked up his car keys. "I have to go to my destiny!" He sang as he left the house.

He couldn't beat the traffic, it was so bad that he thought of parking his car and trekking to the restaurant. He was already 10 minutes late and the drive from there is 30 minutes. He was still contemplating on what to do when he heard some noise, he looked up and saw some drivers coming out from their vehicles and raining abuses at someone; he wondered what was going on. From the look of things, the traffic jam is going to take a long to subside. He decided to do the only thing he knows how to do. jog!

Tara was infuriated, "he invited me here only to keep me waiting," she thought as she checked her time for the umpteenth time. "I might just walk away from here." She waved to the waiter to pay her bills. The waiter approached, she opened her purse and brought out some money. She was about handling it over to the waiter when she heard a familiar voice behind her.

"Not so fast girl!"

She recognized the voice and stood up to face him with an angry stare.. "What the heck......!" She stopped when she saw him, he looked so haggard and all sweaty. Has he been running? She asked herself. "What happened to you?" She asked as she signaled to the waiter to leave. "You came an hour late looking like someone who just ran 1000 metre race."

"Exactly!" I just ran 5000 metre race all because of you." He said sitting.

"What happened?" She asked again sitting down, Richard sat opposite her.

"There was traffic on the way, when I thought the traffic was getting better, a trunk got spoilt at the middle of the road, I had no choice than to park my car somewhere and jogged down here."

"You could have called to cancel the dinner," she said.

"Yes I could have if only I had your number."

She sighed and apologized once again for being rude to him the other day.

"Is okay, I understand what you are going through." She looked at him questioning. " Mimi told me everything Mara, but you don't have to shut yourself out just because some idiots broke your heart."

She was furious! How dare Mimi discuss her with a stranger! She will get it from her when she gets home.

"Oh No!" Exclaimed Richard reading her thoughts. "Don't be mad at your friend, she was only concerned about you. Besides, I was the one who pestered her to tell me all about you girls."

"I can relate. What exactly do you want from us Richard?" Tara asked with seriousness.

"I just want to be a friend, not just any friend but that friend who can confide in, that friend you can run to in times of trouble. I want to be that friend."

"But I already have that friend. She's Mimi. Don't tell me you want to take her place." She joked. "Besides, am not interested in having any guy as a friend.

"You know I can never take her place," he said and smiled.

She studied him, he was more handsome than she thought. He was a beautiful man. He has a fine and trim masculine body that will make any woman melt. No wonder her friend is so much in love with him, is time she finds out what his relationship

"And Mimi," she asked. "What do you think of her?"
