All these talk of Lagos is where it is because it was once capital. Let Abuja stop been a federal capital today after all the trillions spent and see if it will survive. For the developers information, Calabar was once federal capital too

Look at the lunatic tagging someone with more intelligence than your bigoted dull head father dimwit. If you have any functional brain in that igbotic box you call head you should discovered Nigeria was tagged giant of Africa before the discovery of oil. It was after the discovery of oil that lunatic Igbos in Ironsi truncated Nigeria confederating unit n now Nigeria is only giant in doom. Let oil finish in Nigeria n Nigeria start drilling gold or drill nothing Lagos State will forever be a state your tribe will envy but can't never meet up to it achievement as underdeveloped as it is.

Calabar was never the capital of Nigeria.
Calabar was the capital of Protectorate of Southern Nigeria which translates to today SS, SE and Owo division of Ondo.

Lagos was the capital of Lagos colony and protectorate which translates to modern SW minus Owo division.

In 1906, Sir Egerton amalgamated Southern Protectorate with Lagos to form Colony and protectorate of Southern Nigeria.
The capital of Southern Nigeria was then shifted from Calabar to Lagos.

This set the stage for Lagos to be the capital of Nigeria in 1914 when Lord Lugard amalgamated Southern Nigeria with Northern Nigeria.

By 1938 when Bernard Burdillion divided Nigeria into three regions of North, West and East, Enugu by virtue of its coal resources had become a more important city to the colonials than Calabar and hence became the capital of the East.

So OP you are wrong. Calabar at no point in time was the capital of a United Nigeria. It was displaced by Lagos as the capital of Southern Nigeria in 1906.

Calabar is considered as the first capital of Nigeria because it served as the first capital of the Southern Protectorate, the Oil River Protectorate, and Niger Coast Protectorate. This was until the late nineteenth century, when the administrative centre of the Southern protectorate was moved to Lagos in 1906.

It was never a capital of Nigeria.

Until 1914 there was no Nigeria.

Calabar was the capital of Southern protectorate before it was merged to Lagos colony and protectorate in 1906 to form protectorate and colony of Southern Nigeria with capital in Lagos.

Nigeria was formed in 1914 with its capital in Lagos.
Get your facts right.

Calabar is not considered as the first capital of Nigeria because it was never capital of Nigeria. Nigeria was creater in 1914 with the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates.
