But St. Paul and St. Peter are now government owned and the teachers were being paid from the state treasury.

I think the court should be the last resort in this for interpretation.

If a former missionary school was taken and converted to public school, do the school authority still have the right to administer it as Christian schools with practice and norms conforming to the Christian religion.

If yes to the above, then a law should be circulated that parents that wants their Muslim kids to still retain their Muslimness in all form should desist from enrolling their kids in former missionary schools.

If no, then the leadership of those schools should accept those kids to continue to use their hijab and stop wasting time on irrelevances.

The government need to do this and the outcome of the law should be respected by both sides. If the court says mission school can still uphold the Christian principles, then any Muslim that henceforth cause problem by insisting on hijab should be arrested and tried.

Until then, this is still open for debate.

They are not government owned but they receive subsidies from the government
It still has a full Christain management that employs all irrespective of faith

If they are not government owned, then Muslims should respect the tradition of the school and desist from taking their wards to the school if they won’t abide by the rules.

However, there is a but in this, since government subsidize the school from the tax paid by all people irrespective of faith, then the court should interpret whether the school have the right to shut the door from people of the Islamic faith who chose to enrol their kids in the school and retain their Islamic way of life.

The court should be approached by both sides for interpretation on this instead of heating up the polity with gbas gbos on the internet.

It’s still a christin government school
You can take your children to Muslim government schools
Or stop funding the schools so Christian can manage it
Na by force to attend or subsidize Christian schools

There is nothing like Christian government school. It’s either a government school or private school.

I went to Ibadan Grammar school which is an Anglican school as a Muslim and I could remember some of my classmates always have hijabs on and no one is infringing on their right.

Everything still bore down to the rule of law and interpretation. The court should step in and interpret this once and for all of a government subsidized mission school can shut its door to people of other faith that wants to retain their way of life.

I don’t know if such law already exists, but if not they should solve this and each party should respect the decision.

You should remember that the number of public schools itself are limited so every right deserve the right to attend those ones available so as not to deny them their rights to education.

This is not an ethnic issue.

It is religious.

Many of the Muslims who attend these missionary schools are Yorubas.

Hmmn.... You have a point but I'd rather call it ethno-religious.

It was called mission school because it was founded by early missionaries but now controlled by government

Public schools with Christian or Muslim backing have tenets they wish to uphold. Before enrolling children there, parents should use their brains and know what they are getting into.

I wonder why Christians in these places never seem to have this problem. Only Muslims in Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti etc. are always complaining about public schools like primary School and law school. Even the North doesn't have this issue.

I attended school with Muslims who never wore the hijab right up till we left, since it was not an Islamic school. There was never a day of protests. They knew what they were getting into. Everyone was okay.

Nowadays people are looking for how to be outraged over nothing. If you want religion, carry it to your religious school. Let public schools remain secular. You came for education, not to show holiness and religious dress code.

Muslims who don't use the Hijab do not understand that part of Islam. What is right should have been the freedom of religion and expression where everyone practises as one wills without disturbing others. So how does the Hijab disturbs the sanity ofhe Christians as we are the ones putting it on?

You want us to be like you in dressing while compromising our religion right?

Freedom of religion is the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance. This right extends to any religious belief, but not in the practice of all religious activities (for example, ones that involve breaking other laws).

That is the definition of freedom of religion that you guys are shouting up and down.

I don't know why a sensible person will type a repeated post like this early in the morning. What kind of Christians do we have these days? You even copied a link, for what?

Let me restate that the constitutional rights is superior to other laws in Nigeria. So the rules of the organization should align itself with the constitution not vice versa!
