I have been working on this project for a while and I thought I should share it out, its project on Absentee Marriages.

I have been doing a lot of research and findings on proxy marriages and in the cause of my search I realized people get married in this manner but for some reason they do not come out to say, they hide their identities.

I have this uncle who has been in Germany for quite some time now in search of greener pastures and all.

So we had this discussion sometime ago and he told me how he met a young babe online and they have been talking and all, i was like really how nice. In the course of our discussion he told me how he is quite convinced about her and made his intention to settle down with her as soon as possible known to me.

In my curiosity, I asked him how he intends doing it, and how he will present the matter to the family as it's a babe he has only seen virtually and she is based here in Nigeria while he is based in Germany.

After much said and done a date was eventually picked, all marital rites were performed in the absence of my uncle, yes he was able represented that day since he couldn't come to Nigeria for the marriage.

He got married to this babe he met online but the babe is still yet to go meet him in Germany, they have never seen each other

I would like to hear people's thoughts about this type of marriage and also use this as a medium to do an open call out to people who are getting married between now and April in this manner.
Please if you know someone or whoever is interested has a little thing to benefit.

It's like a sword with two edges; sometimes it does end well, while some other times it does end in tears, frustration, and dissolution with or without them meeting each other.  I've seen the latter happen. 

There's a possibility that the lady and her people might return the bride price after sometimes if he couldn't find his bearing very fast depending on her age, marketability, and conviction. Of course, there's also a possibility that the guy might not consider her worthy enough for a wife on arrival if his testosterone reacts more to physical/material attraction than mental attraction and if he'd chosen her based on her physical/material possession.

The marriage is not valid jare.

Is this kinda marriage valid? 5years after, they're yet to see and consummate the marriage? What exactly is stopping your uncle from relocating the wife to join him or Jim coming to see her every year at least?

OP, the only thing I can say is that things dey occur! I bet you, the wife will soon tire and move on.

I have a friend whom a girl from italy was planing to send him 200k to go to her home town to do introduction and during the course of the introduction he should pay the bride price. and after that she will work a way to bring him to italy. but I advise my friend not to do it.

maybe your uncle his yet to have papers and also yet to bring her there. the marriage will be frustrated until she give up and move on with her life.

I also understand some women just want to get married not because they want to stay but just want to fulfil society. in Edo for example many girls for rich family will get married and within 2 months they will run away to abroad for many years living and forgetting their husband. they know what they where doing from the initial stage. they don't want husband but it's just so that they get married before their younger ones. because when their younger ones marriage is getting pending because of them they just end up marrying the man they don't love. so that the cup can pass over from them.

Their are many reason or reasons why your brother didn't come to his weeding oh sound odd i think you are referring to traditional wedding here because it look really odd for a church wedding without the groom presence. I don't think Muslim religion will allow such thing too (apology if am wrong)

Your uncle is could be stuck in Germany cuz if his documents, it could be he has someone with him in Germany and waiting until hus German passport is out.

5 years is too long of a wait has your uncle wife applied for German visa? What is stopping her from applying?

I think it is possible because many years ago someone living in Europe married virtually in Ghana
