I love this story. You write very well and express the scenes in clear and concise language, but the plot is somehow stale. I think you are going to write about Carlos' six years in school right? Keep up the good work though. I'm following.

Sports

Five days after starting this new school. Still had mixed thoughts about it. On on hand, the facilities and school policies seem okay and on the other hand, it's boring and the students here are no fun. Well, time would tell because we were still loosening up and trying to figure out each other and our new environment.

At least today would be somewhat interesting, If not for me then for others. During breakfast, the head of the Boarding House announced to us that there would be sports today by twelve o'clock. That announcement got everyone in high spirits, even people like me felt happy though I knew I wouldn't be playing any sports. It was all everyone talked about until it was time for sports.

By twelve o'clock, all the boys were ready to leave the hostel and were assembled by the hostel gate. We were dressed in our normal sports wear which was black striped shirts and shorts. Some boys wore jerseys and sleeves with football boots while others just wore regular sneakers. I was in the normal school sports wear and a Skechers sneakers.

Mr. Dominic and another porter whose name was Mr. Innocent came to release us from our agony. The gate was unlocked and the boys rushed out and began running around finally free after a monotonous life inside the hostel. Paul and I walked together and searched for a place to go, but seeing that majority of the boys were heading for the football field, we joined them. He didn't seem that interested in sports, so we just got into the mini football stadium and looked for a place to sit.

Westwood's football field was located beside the OUT gate. It was fenced off and had stands for supporters to watch the match. There were five hundred chairs all painted in the school colors, yellow and white. The seating arrangement was designed in a way to form the name of the school. The football field seemed big enough in my eyes but it wasn't lined and didn't have the actual specifications I'd seen on TV sometimes but it was still impressive.

Paul and I found a place to seat and waited for the football match to begin. Personally, I wondered how the boys were going to choose teams. I'm sure most people here would just claim that they were good just so they could have a chance to play. We'd probably figure that out with time. Sure enough, I was right and they were having an argument about who to play since everyone wanted to play. At the end, they managed to pick some players and started to get ready for the match.

Not everyone was interested in playing football though, some had gone to the basketball court and badminton courts. The girls were even out from their hostels and the ones that weren't going to play sports headed to the football stands. I could spot Jemima and I prayed that she wouldn't come towards my direction because I still hadn't summoned courage to talk to her yet.

Fortunately, she and some other girls sat some yards away from me. The football match started and generally it looked more like the boys were just kicking air and falling over than making an attempt to play the actual sport. I spotted Ayo on the field and he looked good, I guess he hadn't lost his touch from primary school. Charles was nowhere to be found as far as I had checked so I gave up on looking for him. The girls mainly conversed in groups or walked around and I tried to make small talk with Paul.

"Look at our roommate, what's he doing on the pitch?" I asked comically when I spotted the fat boy in our room. Paul laughed before he replied to me.

"We are both seeing him so it must be that he is either a good footballer or he is good at persuading people."

"But look at him, he can't even move well. He just stands there and barely makes any attempt to go for the ball."

"Oh.... I've realized how he's playing." Paul paused after making his realization. "It's his ball that they're using to play. I've seen it inside his locker in the room before."

"No wonder, he wouldn't play under normal circumstances then."

The girls were laughing too and pointing at someone I guessed to be the fat boy and I suddenly felt bad for him. Yes I know I laughed too but seeing someone else do it was different.

Paul stood up and said he wanted to walk around and I offered to escort him. As I stood up, I realized how distinct the difference in our height was. Paul was a head taller than me and it was either he was too tall for his age or I was too short. I also noticed his features closely now. He was tall and plump, the evidence of good living. He had the kind of complexion that Nigerians referred to as chocolate and he had delicate features. All in all, he looked alright and used his good looks to his advantage. I didn't put much thought into it and we walked out of the stands. As I went down the steps, I caught Jemima's gaze on me and my heart froze momentarily. If I wasn't careful, I would have tripped but I quickly composed myself and walked away.

By the time we came back from our stroll, the score was tied with each team scoring ten goals. As I watched, I found out that there were some good players in our set, at least two players. There were on different teams and I had seen them sometimes. They were both dark and looked quite fit for their ages. I would later find out their names, Harrison and Oke.

Three hours went by and we had to go for lunch. After that, it was back to hostel to bathe and sleep.
