Herdsmen crisis: Ogun residents now sleep in Benin Republic for protection – Red Cross

The Nigeria Red Cross Society has said thousands of residents of Yewa axis of Ogun State now sleep in Benin Republic to avoid being killed by herdsmen terrorising the area.

The Red Cross said the people relocated to the neighbouring country following attacks by suspected herdsmen.

The Ogun State executive branch secretary of the Red Cross, Oluwole Aboyade, said this on Wednesday.

Aboyade said he and his team visited the troubled areas – Igbooro, Asa, Moro, Ibeku and Agbon-Ojodu, lamenting that the people of Yewa were “living in unfavourable condition”.

According to him, many had deserted their homes to seek refuge in Benin.


He said, “What I saw there alongside my team, I will term it a very serious disaster.

“The people have deserted their homes and they now sleep in Benin Republic. You can imagine people leaving Nigeria to seek protection in another country. The situation is more than pathetic.”

Meanwhile, the Red Cross said it would seek assistance from Nigerians to help in bringing succour to the residents of the affected Yewa communities.

In some communities in the three local government areas, it may be difficult to distinguish between the houses in Benin Republic and the ones in Nigeria due to lack of proper boundary demarcation.

So true. one of my Yoruba friends Kunle told me that many of them have fled to Benin Republic and the ones that the Fulanis captured had their names forcefully changed to Fulani names. my thoughts and prayers are with the Yorubas as they may soon go extinct

Because the bandits are talking too much, they are already exposing the government as provider of ammunition and Buhari's cabals who know that if the bandits continue talking they will be exposed advised Buhari to give the order so that they can shut them up.


Those in Buhari's government are the ones supplying bandits guns and if bandits are not quickly tamed those people will be exposed.

Yet their leaders denied it, it will never be well with any Yoruba leader that is covering up this terrible acts.
These Fulani herders would slaughter people on their farm threatening food security and at the same time trying to block food from coming to the south.

Seriously, Dapo abiodun must launch amotekun quickly and put aside politics. He may not secure a second term with the way he's going because ogun people aren't happy with him the way he's handling the situation. The duty of every governor isn't to eat money alone but firstly secure lives and property of those he governs.
