The ML doesn't really hold much appeal to me. G-Class looks a lot nicer, the large Audi Q7 is still my favourite, still waiting for prices to drop. If it were between the BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz ML, it would be an easy choice for me, and the X5 will be my pick. |

hmmmm , Mr Sienna , X5 or ML and you pick the X5 ? Please enlighten me  i'd rather prefer the Q5 to the Q7 , Q7 is rather expensive and fuel guzzler ! I guess the X5 from 2008 makes more sense and has more appeal but the AMG version of the MB ,though not understood nor appreciated in Naija, gives MB a different perspective. Still would appreciate your enlightenment , |

Jeremy Clarkson faulted the gear and the handling of the 2004 Touareg, hope that has been the corrected in the more recent version you tested! |

Jeremy Clarkson didn't like the gear change, but it was not a fault. See here for VW Touareg recalls from beginning of production till date: http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/search.asp On the 2009 model year, it's just the rear spoiler that had security issues, so pretty good. |

The Tourareg is the "plenty" better of the two. If is a proper off-road vehicle from the chassis up with outstanding polar moment especially when it tripods. It is capable in most terrains. Good on soft-road and good off-road. The X5 is yet yet to attain those credentials. In my opinion, you will not be getting your money's worth in a BMW. I'm not sure if it's true that the X5 is based on the chassis of a 5 Series. The short-comings leave much to be desired. Look at pedigree. VW has a lot in the offroad department. X5 is no different from the XC90 or whatever Volvo calls their SUV. It lack off-road capabilities. |

Trac, you're right. The BMW X5 is based upon the BMW 525 iX (E34). Fairly capable in itself, but lack of axle articulation means it will flounder in extremely bad terrain. The Volkswagen Touareg, on the other hand is a purpose-built SUV, with the emphasis on off-road use. The X5 is a very capable vehicle too, though more on-road based. Not often successfully used on off-road trials, expedition or green-laning. |

@siena, what do you have to say about the gclass and x6, really love those cars. And please can you upload a picture showing me where the 2010 s class and 7 have their gear shift lever. These recent bmw cars are pretty confusing, theres one parked outside my flat with lamborghini shift behind the steering wheel, i think its a 2009 5 series wagon-too low i hate it, unfortunately the owner lost the key and the car is just there starring at him, not even up to 6 months he bought it. |

labamba: Yes, I prefer the BMW X5 to the Mercedes-Benz ML. Audi Q5 over Audi Q7? Not for me. The same reason I don't like the BMW X3. I prefer mid to full-size SUV's. Any smaller, and I'd rather buy a full-size family sedan or wagon. Audi Q7 a gas guzzler? Perhaps. But then, aren't large SUV's generally thirstier than medium family cars? I like performance, and know fuel must be burnt to produce power. A 1,0L 4 cylinder Nissan Micra will be very economical, but how many would pick it over a 3,0L V6 Toyota Camry, despite the Camry's thirst? |

For me, I think I would choose the Volkswagen Toureg because I kinda like how the style of it's body compare to the BMW. In terms of maintenance and repair, I think volkswagen parts are much cheaper compare to BMW. Also, it's much easier to setup the Toureg than the X5. |

The owner of the post knows what he is saying and am really impressed by evrytn you have said I most say, I am a german car fan/advocate, I love both benz nd bmw and av always preferred benz over bmw but since ds post is abt bmw vs vw, The touareg is a better car in terms of power,structure etc, Jeremy the top gear guy that works wv bbc even prefer the touareg over a range, cuz of the torque,brake hrse power etc, The touareg is even more spacious and beautiful dn d x5. Av driven an x5 v8 4.4, 2009 x5 3.0 they are good cars I most say, but from what av heard the touareg is better esp offroad, |
