According to online reports, Nigerian soldiers were present at the scene but IPOB members ignored them and continued with their protest.

The Reason for the protest could not be gathered but reports say they protested against the killings of innocent citizens by the Nigerian Armed forces, others, as they mourn a member who allegedly died of an unknown cause.
