Jayvarley:

So does that mean that they would call any descendant of the slave trade "OSU"?

No. "Osu" is an entirely different thing.

Um...should I risk giving Kwame another reason to launch into an anti-Igbo diatribe? grin I think 'brother seller' and 'scammer' and 'drug peddler' and 'prostitute' are quite enough. lol. Hope u don't mind. cheesy

By not explaining it you are only giving Kwame more ammunition! grin Therefore I will have no choice other than to believe Kwame's explanation of the word "OSU" but, no pressure wink

I am proud of what and who I am. My roots on dad's side began with a black man born into slavery in 1720 on Barbados, his son married the birracial daughter of a black man from Senegal. On mom's side the blood line traces back to N. CAROLINA, FLORIDA, & THE BAHAMAS. IN TWO WORDS, NO MAKE IT FOUR, "KISS MY RED ASS" there feel better...if it is any consolation you can lick my booty hole, that is Ghana black bro.

You make me laugh. You are so ignorant and totally oblivious to the African American experience. Black Americans we are a race and people of our own. My cousin's skin colors range from Billie Holiday light to Miles Davis dark and we have the same PIERCE blood. You will never know and I am so happy that you will remain in the dark ( pun intended ).

Re: Nigerian (igbo) & African American by AnOlderAmerican(m): 7:09pm On Oct 24, 2013
My relationships with Nigerians are on a deeper level, I have an 33 year old Edo son who I love as much as I do my own 21 year old son, a 26 year old Igbo brother, and very good Yoruba, Igbo, and Urhobo friends. I have yet to be intimate with a Nigerian.

How do you expect him to understand when he clearly isn't objective in reasoning?

On the topic of Osu, its origins stem back to several centuries ago. In pre-colonial Igboland, when a family, man, woman or person felt he's/she's/they've had so much bad luck and needed to appease the gods, he or she would offer a human being, most times usually a child, to the gods for it was believed that the gods would transfer the bad luck from the appeaser over to the child or person instead. Anybody who became dedicated to the gods automatically became an 'Osu'. They'd then be given their own village/land to inhabit, settle and procreate. They were known to be very handsome/beautiful and intelligent.

I also want to add that the Osu Caste system, just as we have one in India but the Osu system is a much lesser form of it, is a very downplayed thing in Igboland, only existing in a few villages in one or two states of Igboland. It usually does not go beyond the village level and nobody is never called Osu publicly in Igboland and the so-called 'Osus' are treated the same way as others. Personally myself I've never met an Osu or heard someone being called an Osu. You can't even tell who is 'osu' or not because it is not branded on one's face. Lol. It is only the villagers that seem to know which one or two family(ies) amongst themselves in their village is Osu. Coming to the cities, its a practically forgotten issue only coming up during marriage plans whereby Osus and freeborns(dialas) aren't allowed to marry.

That also explains why during marriage plans parents often leave the cities and travel to the village of the groom/bride to inquire if the family of the prospective groom/bride are free born or 'osu' because of the cultural barrier to marriage between dialas/osu. This extra length parents would go to go to the village to inquire shows that the caste system thing is rarely evident in the city where everybody(diala and osu) mix up very well. Apart from not marrying one another, there's no other issue that brings up the topic of who's Osu or not in Igboland.

In my state, Anambra, the Osu caste system is non-existent. And I'm not sure it exists in Enugu, Ebonyi and Delta Igbo areas. I stand to be corrected here. Imo state seems to be the state where it exists. And maybe Abia state too.

That is quite harsh. You don't divulge plans of your movement or your exact location(house address, office address) publicly on a public forum. It is unacceptable. You never can tell who's against you or trailing you. You yourself know this one.

It is a standard practice all over the world, and even in America where he writes from. Your flagrant and undeserving attacks are uncalled for.

I have already studied the Osus origins e.g. human sacrifices and the lingering stigma. As all things Igbo, truly fascinating.

E-Engineer how much of nothing you know. Hilarious. I love Igbos so I regret having disrespected you only for the Igbo blood in your veins. Please cease to communicate with me if you would be so kind. Again, may the Igbo race endure until the sun and moon are no more! And if an IGBO is what a man yearns to be; is there something greater?
